I am not a comic but if I ever decided to chose for a different job I would love to a comedian. 🎭 What inspired you to delve into the world of stand-up comedy and How do you think watching comedy helps a person in day-to-day life?

You should live your life according to your own designs and ideas. Do what you want to do, do what you want to be, because, at the behest of others, only animals dance. Therefore, design your life according to your own requirement rather than putting yourself at the others’ instructions. If you do this, then you will remain unhappy and upset all your life.

But the world will be thankful for laughter because it has changed the lives of human beings during Corona. Life has learned a different lesson during the pandemic, but let's learn how to live in such a situation. The standup comedians have certainly helped keep people away from mental stresses.

I must add that if life’s been tough during Corona, at the same time the lockdown has done well for the environment. It has given us an opportunity to think about ourselves and our loved ones, and it has also given us a lot to ponder in the world joyfully.

When the entire world was going through a tough time, almost a standstill during the Corona pandemic, some people were constantly leaving sparks of laughter amidst the outcry on social media. Governments around the world were pleading with people to stay at home or not go out until they must, and if you go out, there is a danger of catching the virus. Also, there is a danger not only for you, but you can become a danger to others as well. I believe that governments and NGOs must have spent billions of dollars to spread these guidelines among the people.

In the meantime, I spent a lot of time working from home. I am sure most of us have invented ways to stay busy. I am also sure some of you spent a lot of time on social media, and possibly while scrolling through your social media timeline, you might have read tons of funny comments and phrases.

That is why I feel we have to include people on the list of friends who know how to crack jokes even in a grim situation. People called comedians spread laughter among the people. There are no lesser Corona warriors that serve the people in their bad times.

If the doctors and nurses, along with support staff, served the people in the hospitals and prevented the spread of infection, these comedy warriors were doing the same anonymously. They certainly have a role to play in bringing back a smile, especially in this difficult period. They contribute to our happiness.

And finally, listen to the essence of the life of this special Corona warrior: People came alone, and they will go alone, but that’s only a half-truth now. Now, this is proving absolutely wrong. All those who come in contact with each other will go together.”

🎭 Who are your favorite stand-up comedians and why?

I have been listening to some of the great comedians for a long time. Man, they are talented people!" Had it not been for comedy shows, the world would be a heck of a place to live. The laughter shows made our lives easier. They gave us the strength to deal with every crisis and move forward. Therefore, I consider stand-up comedians no less than the Corona Warriors, who disintegrated in the era of Corona like health workers.

Jim Jefferies is one of the best comedians, and he is my favorite. He is unique in his performances on comedy shows, especially with Australian comedians. I love his characters, Russell Coight, Uncle Arthur, and Kel Knight. Robbins has been a regular on television shows such as The Comedy Company, Fast Forward, and Kath & Kim.

*Jim Jefferies- English

He is altogether different and better known for his physical comedy, humor, and, best of all, his timing. I felt when I started watching him during work from home as the Kovid broke out, I thought he was the best Australian comedian. He used to perform with duo Lano but now Woodley performs solo. He has a special talent for entertaining audiences, and his onstage performance is outstanding.

*Zakir Khan- Urdu

Zakir Khan is a popular stand-up comedian who was born into a middle-class Indian family. I was watching him right from the beginning when stand up comedy was nothing much in the Indian scenario, but I must give it to this talented college drop-out from a small city in Madhya Pradesh who was hesitant in the beginning and looked out of place with his Hindi comedy among the English-dominated segment of the stand-up comedy world.

Today, he is considered one of the most famous and celebrated stand-up comedians in India. The way he says Sakht Londa probably stands him out from the rest of the comedians.

*Jaspreet Singh- Punjabi

My next comedian on the list of stand-up comics is Jaspeet Singh, who has his own style, and since he belongs to my native ancestral state of Punjab, I can relate to his concerns and punches. He has emerged as one of the most popular comedians in recent times, with the least use of foul language that most stand up comedians feel is the attraction or USP of the day.

His touch of Punjabi makes him even more hilarious as a standup comedian. Once he starts his show on stage, he weaves a net of humor with comic brilliance.

I know Jaspreet Singh is unique with his outstanding skills for engaging audiences and expecting something special with each of his lines.

I believe Jaspreet has true jokes that showcase life’s realities, parenting, friendship, and humor all wrapped within his 30-minute shows.

Amit Tandon- Mixed languages

Amit Tandon, my favorite comedian, maybe his age has to do something because he belongs to my generation and also because he comes from the corporate world with a Midas touch. He is famous as "The Married Guy."

Amit might look a little older in this trade, but his humor is outstanding, and I can connect with all that he says. Sometimes I feel he says what I feel, as if I give up my job and start doing what he has been doing. He looks a bit older, but he is truly young-at-heart, and audiences of all age groups feel comfortable with his shows because he uses no foul language in his comedy.

Abhishek Upmanue- Hindi Urdu Punjabi

Last, but not least, Abhishek Upmanyu from Chandigarh is another stand-up comedian who looks to me like a local Delhi boy, but to be honest, he is another engineer who gave up his job and entered the field of stand-up comedy. What a talent this boy has! I first listened to him on YouTube and thought he was making up a story, but that was his true story and how he shaped up his career. That was not only hilarious, but my heart felt filled with top-class punches.

He tells stories related to everyday topics with such a hilarious effect, which made me want to search for more of his videos. I will give you his first YouTube video that made me his fan.

🎭 Share a memorable experience from attending a stand-up comedy show OR watching it online.

Amit Tandon is famous not only in India but across the world. I have watched him during his Melbourne show, where he kept the local as well as Indian communities spellbound with his accurate punches.

I laughed a lot when I heard People make jokes about China. All right people were angry with China because someone said, "China has developed so many things and given them to the world, but no one knew that even death would come from China." Sure, China seems to have made so many things, including a smartphone with a touchscreen, a TV with a touchscreen, and a watch with a touch, but now China has made a disease with a “Touch”. People seem to believe, “Oh God will not forgive China since you would not allow a person to sit with his friends and loved ones.”

The list of such jokes is very long, and it’s good to have this as long as it is. A man caged like a bird at home, there was certainly a great need for such jokes, which could spread a smile on our faces. I feel there is no greater medicine than humor which provides us with relief from a sorry state of mind. The humor brings us out of despair and makes us deal with the situation.

🎭 Can you describe a humorous situation from your own life that would make a great stand-up routine?

I once felt deeply touched while reading the sentence, "Either stay at home or else you will have to live in the box." On reading this, I laughed for a minute, but at the same time, I thought that a person would definitely think that if he has to live in this world, he can do it by implementing social distancing. And come to think of it, “Man is a social animal.”

Jokes changed the mindset to some extent, as what could better describe a man’s helplessness in the Corona era than this, "Look, brother, we all have become helpless. You must have heard tonnes of jokes about couples, especially husbands, who are forced to stay at home in lockdown and wash their hands repeatedly. But have you heard this one—what a wife suggests to her lazy husband? If you have not heard, then read it here, “It is better to wash your hands repeatedly, but while washing your hands, wash a couple of utensils too.”

Even in the Corona style of husband and wife, "When the husband asked the wife why she was not wearing a mask, the wife said, “If I wear the mask, how would you see my expression that I am not happy with your laziness?”

I remember when a coworker said, “I am washing my hands so frequently that even my wealth line is getting erased." I laughed aloud when another one replied, "If you don’t wash your hands, then your age line will vanish.”

I also laughed when one of my friends Asif said during a party “Look at their design to kill me. While passing by me, they just removed their mask and sneezed with lots of love." This was his wife who sneezed during a party.

The amazing thing was that no one could live their lives normally because of the lockdown. No one wanted to go out for the fact, "Go to hell, but don’t go in the crowd." So parties like these were rare but we managed them somehow.

I hope you enjoyed my writing

Jaspreet and Zakir are fabulous comedians. I hardly skip their show. One more is Kapil sharma . They just pull me up when I am down.

I once felt deeply touched while reading the sentence, 'Either stay at home or else you will have to live in the box.' On reading this, I laughed for a minute, but at the same time, I thought that a person would definitely think that if he has to live in this world, he can do it by implementing social distancing. And come to think of it, 'Man is a social animal.'

You know, it's like, once I was scrolling through social media, and I came across this meme about staying at home during lockdown. It said something like, "Stay home or you'll end up living in a box." It made me chuckle because, yeah, in a way, we were all living in our own little boxes, trying to stay safe. It's funny how humor can make even the toughest situations a bit lighter.

Jokes changed the mindset to some extent, as what could better describe a man’s helplessness in the Corona era than this, 'Look, brother, we all have become helpless. You must have heard tonnes of jokes about couples, especially husbands, who are forced to stay at home in lockdown and wash their hands repeatedly.

Oh yeah, it reminds me of a funny incident during the lockdown. My friend was joking about how his wife was always asking him to wash his hands, like every five minutes. He said, "I think my hands are cleaner than a surgeon's by now!" It's those little humorous moments that helped us get through those tough times, you know?

The amazing thing was that no one could live their lives normally because of the lockdown. No one wanted to go out for the fact, 'Go to hell, but don’t go in the crowd.' So parties like these were rare but we managed them somehow.

I totally get that feeling. During the lockdown, my family and I had to cancel so many plans and gatherings. But we found ways to have fun at home. We'd have these virtual game nights with our friends, and it was hilarious trying to play charades through video chat. It's true what they say, 'Where there's a will, there's a way.' We adapted and made the best of the situation.

All the best

Thanks, I am sure, I need not tell you about comedians as you know a lot about them. Kapil is on my list too but since he left standup and got involved in full fledged shows with multiple activities, I left him out. Thank you so much for responding to my call!

Comedy is a good part of our existence and I must say it’s needful for the soul. It’s like medicine and does one good. Most of those comedians are so talented that only their looks alone gets you laughing 😂.
