Capsule Film Review: Capitalism: A Love Story (2009)

in #film7 years ago

Among many films of Michael Moore, 2009 documentary Capitalism: A Love Story was the most relevant to the audience, because it dealt with the most important event of the 21st Century – Wall Street crash of 2008. Moore, known for his leftist beliefs, seemingly found perfect target in the catastrophe created by greed of big corporations he had been attacking throughout his career. Moore doesn't stray away from his trademark style and continues to combine black humour, guerilla-style stunts, moving individual stories and passionate commentary. And like many leftists today, he detects source of all world's problems in the Reagan presidency. An interesting variation to the theme is Moore's vision of 1950s America as almost utopian place where, despite certain problems like racism, blue collar workers could, unlike today, had decent lives and could enjoy slices of American Dream. An interesting thesis is compromised by Moore's incoherence created by his obvious enthusiasm over 2008 election of Obama – a wondrous event that he simply can't reconcile with the devastating portrayal of America's sad realities.
