Germany has printed a 0 Euro bill that's worth 2.5 Euros? Wtf

in #money7 years ago

Germany has printed a series of bills of 0 (zero) Euros according to the "Neue osnabrücker zeitung".

As it states, its approved by the European Central Bank, and the bills will be sold as a souvenir.

The fact that the bill is wort 0 Euros, makes this bill worthless in commerce, and has nothing more than a plain symbolic value.

The bill is printed on the same paper as all the standard bills with the same anti counterfeiting techniques like a hologram and a watermark.

There are 5000 bills printed so far, and on them is a picture of a tall ship named "Gorch Fock" of the German Navy from 1958.

It will cost 2,5 Euros and will be sold as souvenir.

This is great, eyeopening example of how fiat currency actually work - money is not worth real value since its not backed by gold, but the central banks are the ones that control the value, and our agreement with what they say.

Sort:

It can't get more ridiculous than that.

As I said a great example of how fiat currency work and they are showing it directly in our face! Its fucking brass! I imagine those people in the Germany Central Bank:
Gentlemen we need a new idea
0 Euro bill that's worth 2.5 Euros
:OOOO

Two options:

  1. they didn't notice this was too obvious and people will start to use their brains
  2. they are sure the public is so brainwashed and/or ignorant that they can do anything they want

banker lulz

0 USD bill coming next, this is the way banks operate nowadays.

A € 500,- bill is worth the energy that went into them, which is around € 0,018...

Laughable!

"..our agreement with what they say." Yes, that's pretty much it, really.

Thanks for pointing out the most important part of my post :)

What's the purpose of printing this? Lol

Oh my. Glad we're moving away from fiat. Hey check your wallet, I sent a tip :) All the best - GK

haha thanks man a lot! I saw the notification and I didn't know what it was and why I have more money in my wallet, because I am new to all of this and then I see this comment. Again thanks a lot, I feel really welcome here because of people like you :)

Value is subjective. Value of a weird money-like souvenir can consist of many other factors than just its validity as a medium of exchange. For example, you may want to pay for the joy of showing your odd souvenir for your friends or spark some interesting discussions about the nature of fiat money - with a unique humourful style as you did :)

As many here are interested in cryptocurrencies, speculation must be noted also. Even though the bill would not have any widespread utility function as such, scarcity makes it an object for speculation. Maybe one day curious collectors are willing to pay much more than 2,5 euros for it.

I have 0 BTC. In Germany this means that I have 2.5 BTC? 🙃

i dont know you should ask there central bank Lol :v
