Attitudes To The Power Of God
Text: James 1:21
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of
naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted
word, which is able to save your souls.
God's word is alive and powerful; it is for the education and training of your spirit. God wants you to have the right attitude to His word. We ought to listen to God's word, carefully study it, put it into practice and remain committed to it; then we will be blessed in what we do. Renew your mind with God's word so that you can know His will for you (Romans 12:12). God want His children to flow in His power (Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:18-19; Luke10:19; Ephesians 5:18). However here are some attitudes to the power of God.
Ignorance: God did not want the Corinthians to be ignorant about spiritual gifts (1Cor. 12:1) and He doesn't want us to be either. God's people perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6; Proverbs. 19:2; 18: 10). We cannot lay claim on or use what we don't know.
Some ignore or neglect the power of God. TImothy was told not to neglect the gift given to him by the laying on of hands (1Tim.4:14). How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation...? (Hebrew 2:3). Salvation is a package; it includes deliverance, preservation, protection etc. If we refuse to pay attention to the power of God at our disposal, how can we enjoy all that God has freely given us?
Some suppress the power; they do not give adequate attention to it. They are lukewarm in their approach to God and His power.
Stir up the gift, the power, the potential God deposited in you. Pay greater attention to the truths you have heard; do not drift away from it (1 Timothy 1:6).
Our God is a powerful God. Thank you for this wonderful message.
