Bad headlines that editors should have caught

in #news4 years ago

I like to talk about or perhaps even brag about the fact that I was an editor for a "minor league" newspaper for a year and never made any mistakes. or at least any mistakes that were ever pointed out to me

Upon graduation (the editing job was something I was doing for free) I couldn't find a job as even a junior editor at any newspaper and seeing as how that entire industry collapsed and media has become click-bait fake-news perhaps it is a good thing that I had to end up pursuing other things. If I was still in that industry at this point I probably wouldn't be thinking very much of myself from an ethical point of view and in a worse-case-scenario I would have been indoctrinated by whatever publication employed me.

In the meantime I like to poke fun at bad headlines that other papers that I did not work for managed to make to print. Let's see what you think.

I looked into this a bit found that the image actually IS part of the story. I thought that it was some bullcrap beforehand but yeah, it turns out that she is simply celebrating a victory in court here but well, you only need to read the title to see why it might be taken out of proportion. I guess it depends on how much porn you have seen.

This is one that I actually take a bit more personally rather than just laugh at it, and this is purely from a professional point of view in a profession that I was never paid for.

it is an editor's job (back when things were printed) to make certain that things like this can not accidentally happen. This was so extreme back when I was involved in the paper that it was not just in conjunction with the page next to it (in order) but also the page that it was attached to, which could actually end up being many many pages later down the line.

This is kind of the same thing, but with images instead of text taken out of context. Is it funny? Hell yeah it is, but i bet that model is not terribly happy about it.

I am pretty sure I have featured this before but honestly, this editor must not have been paying attention at all. There are very few things that are as completely untouchable in media, film, tv or anything else than children, and well, even though I am quite certain that this was an accident, it is a really really bad one.

I don't know who Rachel Ray is but seeing as how this magazine was free I would imagine that she isn't anyone of particular note. I do however, understand that vital importance of punctuation; which if it was used properly, or at all in the headline, the story would have a far more gruesome feel to it.

The written word is slowly dying folks: We are seeing censorship becoming more and more embraced and websites are resorting to clickbait bullshit that they know is bullshit when they can just issue a retraction (that nobody is going to read) later on.

Media is stupid right now and they are not even trying to tell the truth anymore. Therefore, I like to take a break from time to time as far as my outrage towards media is concerned to look back at times when the mistakes were just mistakes instead of the devious, intentionally manipulative garbage that we are fed today.

This was meant to be a humorous post but I hope you can at least take a moment to realize that your media is lying to you. Pay attention and do some research / reading.
