Murder Hornet? pfft! Meet Executioner Wasp!
This story is actually a pretty good one and it is produced well. The reason why I chose to feature it is because in the past I would feature something that was obviously a partisan attack piece that has some sort of political agenda because those were few and far between. However, it is so easy to find those pieces these days that it isn't even interesting looking for one.
In a scroll down Yahoo News' homepage today, nearly every single piece was a partisan hit job of some sort, so it seemed a waste of time to identify ONE of them.
Therefore let's go with something fun, or terrifying I suppose.
So you no doubt have been hearing about the Murder Hornets lately in the news and if you have some level of long-term memory you will recall that the media gets us hyped up about some particular bug or another, a stinging insect of some sort, that is going to ravage the countryside and terrorize children and the elderly, every couple of years.
It never actually happens.
So they brought in the murder hornets and then a video of one of these guys killing a rat goes viral. Great, everyone is afraid now!
Not fit to be content with murder hornet shock-and-awe YouTuber Coyote Peterson has a videos where he actually allows insects to sting him, to see which is the most painful. He actually went through this back in 2018 but it is kind of funny today.
As someone that has been stung by all sorts of stuff in his life, most recently by a carpenter beetle (don't recommend that!) I found the video terrifying and is the best actual news I have seen today. I highly recommend you at least peruse it.
Peterson is not the dumb news here; that dude has got some massive cojones. The dumb news here is that the media is proving yet again that they specialize in misinformation especially when it is a doom and gloom or fearmongering position.
There is no evidence to suggest that the Murder Hornets are breeding or moving across the United States, three is only one suspected colony location in all of USA, and that is likely to be immediately eradicated. Yet something like 10% of news stories are about precisely how these insects are going to become the next big thing. They leave out the part about how there is virtually no chance of this actually happening because there is no such thing as real journalism anymore. Just clickbait and op-eds.
Not content with operating off of people's fears of painful stings, trash news outlets and even established ones such as the Net York Times went on to talk about how it could wipe out the honey bee population easily - which is true, if there were millions of them, which there aren't. In fact in the USA, there is only 1 Murder Hornet than has even been found, and it is dead. Hardly seems like an invasion to me!
So in summary. Coyote Peterson, I salute you, you are truly a very brave man to willingly put yourself in that situation. All the news outlets that are out there spreading fear about Murder Hornets, you guys and the people that take you seriously, are...
