My Story
I want to share with you how I used to farm during the dry season.
I am a young lady who has a passion for agriculture and I used to farm during both the dry season and the rainy season, many people considered farming during the dry season as something so difficult but I consider it to be easy
The above picture is of farmland where I already planted different crops last year December 2024, eg maize, watermelon, green gram, vegetables, and groundnut.
For the past two years, I have adopted a system of farming called Half Moon from a company called SCL Project Juriya, this company is a farmer-farmer-focused initiative to scale the adoption of Regenerative agriculture concepts.
This system of farming is done in a half-moon shape and it involves digging of pit 2-6m in diameter to accumulate water before subsequent planting with or without the use of organic resources such as compost, plant residues, and animal manure.
This system of farming for the past two years has changed my life for good, it has boosted my financial capacity and that is why I will not end this system of farming anytime soon.
So, last month that was December 2024 was a very busy month for me, as I decided to farm during the dry season, the above picture is the seedlings that I planted, they germinated as expected and I am so happy about it.
In this farm, I used compost, plant residues, and animal manure as fertilizer and if I must tell you, it is the best.
In this system of farming, I spent less money in terms of manure and I always harvest large quantities of food crops. The amazing thing here is that it also increases biodiversity in soil organic matter.
After I finished planting all my inputs, there is a river very close to the farm, I normally fetch water to water the crops, and this used to be my everyday routine once I planted my crops during the dry season.
Finally, I wish after reading my post, I hope that you also will give a regenerative system of farming a try and put it into practice. Trust me you will come to testify.
Thank you all for your usual support, love, and time that you have dedicated to reading my post. I love you all❤
I want to invite @josepha @dave-hanny and @simonnwigwe
