Las rancheras han llegado a ser uno de los géneros más representativos de la música mexicana.
Alfredo Jiménez es considerado el padre de la ranchera junto a Vicente Fernández, aunque ha habido un número grande de interpretes de este género solo les mencionare algunos nombres: Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete, Antonio Aguilar, Miguel Aceves Mejia, Tito Guizar, Lucha Villa, Rocio Durcal y la lista sigue y es muy larga.
La canción ranchera presenta las siguientes medidas musicales:
ranchera 2/4 (ranchera marcha o ranchera polkeada)
ranchera 2/4 lenta
ranchera 3/4 (ranchera valseada)
ranchera 4/4 (2 compases de 4/4 en el bolero ranchero)
