I will start the power-down now too. I wanted to do it after the airdrop, but I think there will not be any change in terms of how many HIVE tokens I get.

Power up or power down does not change your Hive tokens. Both are copied over to the new chain.
So if let’s say on Friday 10am eastern I have 5 days left until my next power down, I would immediately have 5 days left until my next HP power down?
Yes and in that case the power down will happen on both chains. Your SP will power down on the Steem chain and produce STEEM, and your HP will power down on the Hive chain and produce HIVE.
After the fork, anything you do on either chain will be completely independent of the other chain.
