September to Remember?: Why it is a month of expectancy.

September to Remember?

Nice rhyme right? It is a good rhyme and also an unforgettable one.

This review of the month of September is as seen through the eyes of a father and a simple man who has got so much to do and mostly around the month of September.

September is the Ninth month of the year and it is the end of Summer and the first month of Autumn which is also the beginning of the Yuletide around the world. It is also the month for appraisals and some kind of domestic and foreign accidents that are mostly inevitable.

It is the first and one of four with the 'ember' words at the end of it and that in many countries (like mine) has a ring to it; "the ember months."
In my country, there are increased rates of kidnappings, robbery, looting, accidents etc starting from the month of September till the end of the year, and it happens like clockwork every year.

For some weird reasons, many get the jitters when the ninth month arrives and many shiver when they hear, 'September is coming!'
Funfact 1:

Did you know that September comes from the old Roman word “septem”, meaning “seven”, because in the Roman calendar it was the seventh month?- Source.

I Feel Blessed!

These are some of the most notable activities that makes September the heralding of expectation for the year.

New School year starts in September.

The month of September is the month where students return to school in most parts of the world and that is a good thing right? Well, it is because children have to return to learning again and also to meet their friends after a long break. It is however a month where you will be expected to pay out some very huge amounts of money to get your children and wards back to school.

Many get really antsy when it is school resumption time and there are headaches and pains about paying school fees and getting the children ready for school.

I think this is the most worrisome feature about September globally because, parents have to pay fees afresh including getting new books, uniform, school shoes and lunch boxes etc.

Research (speculative) shows that more than 1billion USD is spent every September to return children back to school in Africa and the Middle East. (DYOR so you understand the figure.)

I have no idea why September is the month when children are returned to school, but it kinda plays well in its own part and that month is a whole definition of expectancy.

Feel free to expound on the school subject in the comment section.

Bye bye Summer. Autumn is here...

As you know, Autumn is the season after summer and before winter. It is the transitioning from summer to winter.
September is that month that allows for the smooth movement from summer to winter and it is also that time where we try to grab as much sun as we can before it all becomes so cold and wet.

I like the Autumn season because it is really beautiful and allows you experiences what dry leaves are and how to really take advantage of an almost sunny day. It is a time when we are not sure what to expect season wise because, the season is one that is in a transitioning to another.

The Yuletide.

September is the start of the yuletide month and it usually leaves many in a hurry to try and compensate for those unfulfilled dreams they set out to achieve during the year in view.
In one very truthful word, "September is the countdown to the end of the year!"

We are never aware of how far gone the year is until we get to the month of September. I am sure you never thought of it.
It is in September you can hear people complaining of not having achieved anything since the beginning of the year and many tend to push themselves mostly negatively in a bid to see if they can achieve what they couldn't in 8 months. There is the need to prove that, we are not failing and that only mostly comes into play in the lives of many in September.

Whatever happened to January till June that allowed us think the year will never end?

The most accidents are recorded in September?

Okay, that is not like a celebratory tone but it is the truth? In my country, we hear about the most terrible accidents and in their numbers in the ember months and this starts from September.

Reason is that, there is a needs for many to travel for business and holidays during this period and there are more travelers on the road, rail, seas and air in September till December than any other time in the whole wide world.
It is that season where people are moving from one state to the other and from one continent to the other on business and or pleasure.

The death rate globally is usually high during the end of the year and it starts from September.
Also, there is the issue of natural disasters like fires, earthquake, volcanic eruptions etc mostly happening at this time of the year. This brings us to our next funfact.

Funfact 2: Did you know that the Romans believed that the month of September was looked after by the god of the fire and forge – Vulcan?- Source.

According to Wikipedia, "September is the most active for hurricanes and other natural disasters globally and the season's climatological peak of activity occurs around September 10 each season."

The most devastating attack on US soil happened on September 11 2001

Appraisal period.

How am I ever going to forget this about September? Almighty appraisal period of all periods as a 9to5 worker.
I remember my banking days so fondly now because, it is at this time of the year we are appraised of what we have done since the beginning of the year. Do you know how serious appraisals are?

Thinking about it now, it is look clear why I wanted to do this article. The feeling of being appraised below the pass mark and also the fear that comes with not being promoted after the appraisal period is every banker's nightmare.
It is the appraisals that determines who gets to keep their jobs in the new year and also who gets paid, medicals, housing, leave and promotion allowances.

I love the month of September because, then as a child, it is usually that time of the year we get to be expectant for our Christmas clothes/shoes and gifts from family and friends. It also was that period we longingly look forward to meeting our relatives and friends who must come home for the holidays.

September is the ninth month of the year that is fortunate to herald the yuletide, the new school year, the end of summer and the precursor to the beginning of winter and it comes with its unique signals that makes you want to hurry up your hustle.

It is the month that allows us know we have to sit up and make sure to get things done on time. We are mostly humbled at this time of the year because, we just know it will be a new year soon.

What about you?

What is your phobia of September?
Do you pay school fees in September?
Does the month mean anything to you as that ninth month?
What fond memories do you have of September and how do you relate to it?
