Cry out to God for His protection. Psalm 120

in HeartChurch3 years ago

God's children are called to be humble and obedient people, especially lovers of peace and neighbor. However, there are situations in which, no matter how much you try to be at peace, there are people who persecute you and with their tongues slander and humiliate you. Psalm 120 teaches us that in the midst of deceitful people and dangerous tongues, the best thing to do is to cry out to God and let the Lord deliver us from those who persecute us and slander us with great insults. The author of this psalm wrote:

I cried out to the LORD when I was in distress,
and he answered me.
2 Deliver my soul from a lying lip, O LORD, and from a deceitful tongue.
and from the deceitful tongue.
3 What will he give you, or what will profit you?
O deceitful tongue?
4 Sharp arrows of a mighty man,
With coals of juniper.
5 Woe is me, that I dwell in Meshech!
And I dwell among the tents of Kedar!
6 Long has my soul dwelt
With those who hate peace.
7 I am peaceable;
But when I speak, they make war against me. Psalms 120 Reina-Valera 1960 (RVR1960)

Psalm 120 teaches us that in situations of distress and persecution the important thing is to cry out to God to protect us from our adversaries. Living in distress logically robs you of peace and joy, in many situations it causes our heart to be filled with anger and hatred towards our enemies. God expects us to cry out to Him, to take control of our situation and avoid falling into bitterness because of those who hate and hate us. This psalm reminds me of what Hannah, the mother of the prophet Samuel, experienced when her husband's other wife, Elkanah, hated and mocked her. In those days, Hannah was in the temple of Shiloh and there she poured out her soul before the Lord and He gave her victory by allowing her womb to bear fruit and she was able to have a son whom she named Samuel. This story of Hannah teaches us that we should cry out to God when the enemy tries to make your life bitter.
What happened in Hannah's life is what verse one of Psalm 120 teaches us.

I cried out to the LORD when I was in trouble,
and he answered me. Psalm 120: 1

The psalmist, from the depths of his heart, cries out to God to deliver him from people with lying lips and fraudulent tongues. We know that the father of lies is Satan, who uses weak and sinful people to hinder the life of God's children. There are people whose business is precisely to speak evil of others; they live in envy and jealousy. They do not rest in slandering those who in one way or another serve God. The author of this Psalm 120 advises us that in the midst of these situations in which people with dangerous tongues and who cause fraud, the important thing is to deliver them into the hands of the Lord, therefore, we must cry out to God for protection against these harmful people.

Deliver my soul, O Lord, from the lying lip,
and from the deceitful tongue.
3 What will it give thee, Or what will it profit thee?
O deceitful tongue? Psalm 120: 2-3

The psalmist considers a deceitful tongue to be of the utmost danger, for it is like an arrow in the hand of a brave man, which, because of its swiftness, causes immediate harm. A deceitful tongue kindles a whole community and a whole city; it is like an ember of juniper, producing a consuming fire that can produce enormous damage. People who abhor peace, live by their deceitful and fraudulent tongues, do not mind harming the humble or those who love peace. The people of Israel, although they loved peace, were surrounded by peoples like Meshech and the tents of Kedar, who were inhabitants who hated and abhorred Israel. We must cry out promptly to God to deliver us from all these harmful and war-loving peoples. The psalmist wrote:

4 Sharp arrows of a mighty man,
with coals of juniper.
5 Woe is me, that I dwell in Meshech
and I dwell among the tents of Kedar! Psalm 120: 4-5

There are many discomforts that occur when surrounded by people who abhor peace. There are people who live from gossip to gossip and do not live well, if they are not speaking ill of other people. To be peaceful is a characteristic of the children of God, however, there are people who do not rest their tongue to speak evil of those who love to be peaceful. God commands us, that as long as it depends on us to be at peace with others, we should try to do so, but it is unfortunate that you will always find people who try to make your life bitter because of their deceitful tongue, however, God commands us to love peace and our enemies.
At all times we should cry out to God that we may be peaceful people and not lose the glorious gift of peace that the Holy Spirit has poured into our hearts.

For a long time my soul has dwelt with those who hate peace.
with those who hate peace.
7 I am peaceable;
But they, when I speak, make war against me. Psalm 120: 6-7
