God is my protection. Psalm 125

in HeartChurch3 years ago

When we lived in the world without Christ and without hope, the spiritual walls of our lives were completely broken down and we were easy prey to the enemy. We had no protection and even less security to counter the attacks of the powers of darkness. However, when Christ came into our lives, He erected mighty spiritual walls that protect us from all the wiles of the enemy. When we have God as our fortress, we feel completely protected and confident that God is all around us to take care of us and fight our battles. Psalm 125 clearly expresses that God is protection not only for the people of Israel, but also for the Christian people.

Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which does not move, but stands forever.
2 As Jerusalem has mountains all around her,
so the Lord surrounds his people
From this time forth and for evermore.
3 For the rod of wickedness shall not rest upon the inheritance of the righteous;
Lest the righteous stretch forth their hands to iniquity.
4 Do good, O LORD, to the good and to the upright in heart.
and to the upright in heart.
5 But those who turn aside after their perversities.
Jehovah will take them with the workers of iniquity;
Peace be to Israel. Reina-Valera 1960 (RVR1960)

Trusting in God is a guarantee of security. God is protection and strength for those who choose to dwell under his protection and shadow. In times of conflict or spiritual battles, the Lord surrounds us like a shield and fights our battles. In times of adversity, the Lord surrounds us and encamps in the different extremes of our lives. In ancient times, Mount Zion was a symbol of security and the psalmist takes it as a comparison of what God currently represents for his people, "an ultimate security or protection".
We cannot minimize God's presence in our lives, but have full confidence that God is continually with us and guarantees us steadfastness on the eternal rock, which is Jesus Christ. The psalmist said:

Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which is not moved, but stands forever. Psalm 125:1

God is around his people, which is an affirmation of the author of Psalm 125. The Lord promised not to leave us nor forsake us, which implies that day and night, Jehovah is around his people from now on and forever.
No matter what circumstance we are living in, what matters is that God is with us at this moment and knows how He will protect us from the bad time we may face. The eyes of God neither slumber nor sleep, but watch over the land permanently and his eyes surround and cover his people to give them timely protection. Just as Jerusalem was surrounded by mountains, so God surrounds his people and protects them from all their enemies.

As Jerusalem has mountains all around her, so the LORD surrounds his people and protects them from all their enemies,
so Jehovah surrounds his people
From this time forth and forevermore. Psalm 125: 2

God's protection over his people is of such magnitude that he does not allow the wickedness of the enemy to penetrate the territory of his people. God takes care to drive out the wickedness that may come upon his people, so that iniquity may overtake the righteous. God's protection comes by the fulfillment of his word. If God's people reject the Lord's commands, the rod of iniquity will fall upon the disobedient children, but, if the people are obedient, God will bring good upon the upright in heart. The psalmist says:

For the rod of wickedness shall not rest upon the inheritance of the righteous;
Lest the righteous stretch forth their hands to iniquity.
4 Do good, O Lord, to the good,
and to the upright in heart. Psalm 125: 3-4

If a Christian turns away from good to do evil, God takes away that Christian's protection and delivers him into the hands of his tormentors and takes him to those who do iniquity. He who turns away from the ways of God seeks his own way and his end is the way of death. He who keeps himself under divine protection will enjoy a breadth of security and the peace of God will be upon him.

5 But those who stray after their perversities,
Jehovah will take them with the workers of iniquity;
Peace be upon Israel. Psalm 125: 5
