Prayers to God for blessings. Psalm 132

in HeartChurch4 years ago

God, as a benign and loving Supreme Being, deserves the best offerings we can give Him from the depths of our hearts. In response to what we can give to God from our heart, He will return His favor with better grace and abundant blessings.
In Psalm 132, King David promised God to build the temple in Jerusalem and the Lord rewarded his son Solomon by providing everything necessary for the construction of the royal house.
To the extent that we offer God something that pleases Him, the Lord will return to us in grace the best blessings for our lives.
David had promised the Lord not to give rest and sleep to his soul until he had fulfilled what he had promised the Lord, "The building of the temple in Jerusalem."

Remember David, O Lord,
and of all his affliction;
2 How he swore to the Lord,
and swore to the Mighty One of Jacob:
3 I will not enter into the habitation of my house,
neither will I go up to the bed of my footstool;
4 I will not cause my eyes to sleep
Nor sleep to my eyelids,
5 Until I find a place for the LORD,
A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob. Psalm 132: 1-5 Reina-Valera 1960 (RVR1960)

David swore before God to build a temple where the Lord would dwell and receive the praises of the people of Israel. In his oath to God, David declared that he would not enter into the habitation of his house, nor go up into his bed, nor give sleep to his eyes until he had built the house or Temple to God. Although this oath of David's was made with all his heart, the Lord received it with much pleasure, yet he told David that it was not he who should build him a house where the Lord would dwell, but a son of David who was to be called Solomon.
David's heart toward God was sincere and full of gratitude, for David recognized that God had delivered him from many afflictions he had faced in his life, and he also wanted to give God a place for all the people to gather and give Him praise. However, in the days of Solomon the temple was built and God in return for what David's son gave him, God gave him the royal house, for David's son to dwell in with great blessings.
God never keeps what we give him. David through Solomon gave God a temple and God gave David's son a glorious and majestic royal house.

David knew that since the days of Moses in the wilderness, the Lord did not have a permanent place for the people to worship Him, but through the wilderness the tabernacle was carried from place to place. This prompted King David to swear before God that he would make a permanent place for him to receive the praise of his people. God had chosen the tribe of Judah to have their house of prayer in their territory, especially in Jerusalem.
David in his prayer tells the Lord to arise and come to the place of their rest, that is, to the temple they would build in Jerusalem where they would place the ark of the covenant and the priests would be clothed with righteousness.

Behold, we heard it in Ephratah;
We found him in the fields of the forest.
7 We will go into his tabernacle;
We will bow down at the footstool of his feet.
8 Arise, O LORD, to the place of thy rest,
You and the ark of your power.
9 Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness
and let your saints rejoice. Psalm 132: 6-9

David in his prayer asks God to answer his prayer and in response, the Lord also swore to David that he would always put men of his descendants on the throne of Israel. Only one condition the Lord placed on David, which centered on his descendants keeping his commandments and remaining in his way, if this was violated by David's descendants, God would annul his covenant.
God's blessings for his people, whether Israel or the Lord's church, are always conditional upon keeping the Lord's commandments and remaining in his way. Every believer must keep this condition in mind in order to receive the blessings that come from God.

David in his prayer said to the Lord:

For David, your servant
Do not turn away your face from your anointed.
11 Truly the Lord swore to David,
and he will not go back on his oath:
Of thy seed will I set upon thy throne.
12 If thy children keep my covenant
and my testimony which I will teach them,
their children also shall sit upon thy throne forever. Psalm 132: 10-12

We know from the Scriptures that the place God had chosen to dwell was the holy land of Jerusalem, the place where Solomon built the temple to the Lord and the people gathered to praise and glorify the God of Israel. Jerusalem has been the land of the place where God promised to rest and bless his people. God promised to dwell in that holy land, although currently the temple in Jerusalem is no longer there because it was destroyed in 70 AD, it is still the place where the Lord will rest with his people Israel in the "Millennial Kingdom". Israel will have significant abundance and prosperity that will make it the head of all nations in the messianic kingdom. There will be celebration and the priests and saints will give voices of jubilation and joy.

For the Lord has chosen Zion;
He willed it as a dwelling place for himself.
14 This is my resting place forever;
Here I will dwell, for I have loved her.
15 I will abundantly bless her provision;
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation,
and her saints shall shout for joy. Psalm 132: 13-16
