1 John 5: 14-15 New International Version (NIV)

14 And this is the confidence we have in him, that if we ask him something according to his will, he listens to us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in what we ask, we know that we have the requests we have made.

Immature faith tries to manipulate God. Guide the believer in short paths and formulas that guarantee a response to any request. The immature believer considers prayer as a weapon to force God to keep his promises. But true prayer is not a human effort to persuade God or force his will. True prayer is based on seeking and agreeing with the will of God (1 Jn 5:14). If we ask according to your will; then we rest in faith, trusting that God hears us and that what we ask for is already ours (1 Jn 5:15).

What lessons can be obtained from these biblical passages?

We deduct the following:

  • To pray with authority and receive answers to your prayers, be sure to ask according to God's will. If you do not know his will, ask God to reveal it to you (James 1: 5).

  • Believe that God hears your request and has already begun to answer you.

  • Pray tenaciously and patiently until your will is fulfilled. That is what true prayer consists of.
