To long for the pure milk of God's word. "1 Peter 2: 1-3"

As soon as we receive Christ as the personal savior of our soul, we enter the first stage of the new birth, as if we were a newborn baby coming out of its mother's womb. The first food a newborn receives is mother's milk, which contains the nutrients necessary for the newborn to begin to grow strong. The apostle Peter exhorts the believers in Christ to have a longing for the pure milk of the word of God, which contains the spiritual nutrients, which will give sufficient strength to those born in Christ to grow successfully in the spiritual life.

Therefore, forsaking all unrighteousness and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander, 2 long for the pure milk of the word, [a] as newborn babes. Thus through it you will grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted how good the Lord is. "1 Peter 2: 1-3" New International Version (NIV)

The newborn in Christ must be willing with the help of the Holy Spirit to forsake all those things in which he was vitiated in his past way of life, which were proper to the world, such as: wickedness, deceit, hypocrisy and all slander. The word of God teaches, "if anyone is in Christ he is a new creature, old things have passed away and all things have become new". The new things that must be incorporated into the new life in Christ are those corresponding to the biblical principles, especially those related to the fruit of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, faith, gentleness, patience, self-control. The Holy Spirit will be in charge of guiding the one born in Christ in all truth and righteousness, so that the new believer can renounce what the apostle Peter says:

Therefore, forsaking all unrighteousness and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander. "1 Peter 2: 1"

The apostle Peter advises us that it is necessary to have a great longing and passion for the word of God like the same longing of a newborn child for mother's milk. Just as mother's milk guarantees a solid and successful growth in a newborn, so the word of God guarantees a spiritual growth in one born in Christ Jesus. The word of God is a great necessity for every Christian, which is very essential and vital to grow in salvation in Christ. The apostle Peter tells us:

Desire eagerly the pure milk of the word, [a] as newborn babes. Thus, by means of it, you will grow up in your salvation. "1 Peter 2: 2"

Longing for the word of God as a child longs for mother's milk is very indispensable, because it helps us to grow in the knowledge of the Lord and to experience how good and pleasing God has been to us by giving us a new birth and delivering us from all condemnation to which we were exposed by the sinful conditions of the world. Having tasted how good the Lord is, we should not neglect to continue to enhance our spiritual growth with the word of God.

Now that you have tasted how good the Lord is. 1 Peter 2: 3"

Finally we can say that just as mother's milk is vital for the growth of a child, so the word of God is vital for the spiritual growth of every Christian, so, taking advantage of how good God has been to us, it is necessary to maintain firmness and interest in learning day by day from the word of God to grow in knowledge and wisdom.
