Wait patiently for your redemption in God. Psalm 130

in HeartChurch3 years ago

What man can do good and not sin? In the same way, we could say that if God were to look upon the sins of man, surely no one could come into the presence of the Lord.
Psalm 130 is an interesting composition in which the author begins with a cry of supplication for sin and ends by acknowledging that only in God is there redemption.

From the depths, O Lord, I cry out to you.
2 Lord, hear my voice;
Let your ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplication.
3 O LORD, if you take heed to sins,
who, O LORD, can resist?
4 But in thee there is forgiveness
That thou mayest be reverenced.
5 In the LORD I have hoped, my soul has hoped;
In his word have I hoped.
6 My soul waits for the LORD
More than the watchmen of the morning,
more than the watchmen of the morning.
7 Let Israel wait for the LORD,
for with the LORD there is mercy
And abundant redemption with him;
8 And he shall redeem Israel
From all his sins. Psalms 130 Reina-Valera 1960 (RVR1960)

Sin is an evil force that is part of man's fallen nature and drags him to the peak of his depravity and impurity. When we allow sin to become the lord of our lives, we open the doors to unclean spirits and they will soon torment our lives. The important thing is to urgently recognize that we need help to get out of this curse. The author of Psalm 130 begins with a cry of supplication to God because of his sin and says:

From the depths, O Lord, I cry out to you.
2 Lord, hear my voice;
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplication. Psalm 130: 1-2

There is no doubt that the psalmist's plea is a product of his true repentance for sin and demands that God listen to him and heed the voice of his plea.

When we turn early to God and recognize that He alone can redeem us from all our sins, we are given the great opportunity to know that God is merciful and gracious. We understand that God does not stop to look at our sin, but that God looks at the humility and repentance with which we turn to Him to find forgiveness for our sins. We must avoid as much as possible acting as Adam did in the Garden of Eden when he sinned and hid. We must come to God with a humbled and repentant heart. In God we can wait at all times because only in Him we can find timely help for our life.

Only in God is there forgiveness of sins, through his Son Jesus Christ, and only through Christ's redemptive work on the cross can we confidently approach God's throne to reverence him.
If anyone commits a sin, let him wait patiently on God, for in his word we find comfort, that we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, who is faithful and true to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Let us not seek refuge in other things to relieve the weight of our offense, but let us come to the feet of the Lord and long for his forgiveness as the watchman longs for the morning.

The psalmist, expressed it with the following words:

Yahweh, if thou beholdest sin, Who, O Lord, can resist?
4 But in you there is forgiveness,
That thou mayest be reverenced.
5 In Yahweh I have hoped, My soul has hoped;
In his word have I hoped.
6 My soul waiteth for the LORD
More than the watchmen of the morning,
More than the watchmen of the morning. Psalm 130: 3-6

We cannot enter into despair because of sin, but must confidently expect that God alone can redeem us. To go with confidence to the throne of grace assures us that the Lord will give us timely succor and remission of all unrighteousness. The Lord's church must understand that only Christ alone can forgive all our faults, without our having to sin voluntarily.
When Adam and Eve sinned in Eden, they took refuge among the trees of the garden and did not immediately seek the comfort and remission that the Lord could have given them. The church today must understand that God alone is our refuge and in Him alone we must hope, for in God there is mercy and abundance of redemption. The psalmist wrote it to encourage the people of Israel saying:

7 Let Israel hope in the LORD,
for in the LORD there is lovingkindness
And abundant redemption with him;
8 And he will redeem Israel
From all his sins. Psalm 130: 7-8

Finally, dear reader, there is nothing we can hide from God's eyes. The Lord does not delight in looking at the sin of his children, but in the attitude of humiliation and simplicity with which they approach God to find redemption for their sin.
The humble and contrite heart pleases God. It is necessary to hope in the Lord, in whom alone there is abundant redemption from sin.
