A trip to a gorgeous German city - Freiburg

in #travel7 years ago

Last weekend I visited Freiburg in Breisgau, south Germany, near the French and Swiss borders.

I had a flying visit so just wandered about. It’s a buzzing university town with a great atmosphere, street artists and even a woman offering a minute’s eye contact 😊.

The university library would probably be considered a beautiful modern building on its own, but next to all the older architecture it seems a bit out of place.

The main university building is across the road from it, adorned with the saying "Die Wahrheit wird euch frei machen" - "The truth will set you free".

There are some beautiful buildings and lots of little details to spot all around.

And when you get tired of the city you can literally walk across the bridge to the edge of the Black Forest at Schlossberg Hill.

It has fabulous views and a bar with great beer on tap.

Well worth a visit!

@embracingchaos, hey! Nice post. I live in Freiburg for more than 2 years now. If you come again sometimes in your life, I would be glad to show you around.

Thank you! 😃

Eine sehr schöne Stadt. Da habe ich von 1993- 2000 gelebt.
Resteemed :-)

Toll. Die lockere Atmosphäre dort hat mir sehr gut gefallen. :)

There’s some awesome architecture there, both modern and classic... but wait, did I see a monk sitting on another monk’s head in one of those pics?

Really. Lol, nothing would surprise me. In which one? Apparently somewhere in the city there are some reliefs of a woman with goitre/a fat throat, because iodine deficiency was common then. And they have emblems on the pavements there too- there's one of a black cat to mark the former house of the hangman. I didn't find that either 😜

Perhaps a return trip is in order...

Ah, just realised what you meant about the monk sitting on another monks head. Not quite monks - they're street artists. The guy next to them with the walking stick seemed to be levitating. I really hope they get a lot of donations doing that - they deserve it.

I can see it now, yeah... looks like a good routine...
