RE: General lines to avoid bad surprises, some examples

We meet again @ilgiaguaro.

I see you have attempted to dive deeper into the topics of licensing and copyright. It is an interesting topic in terms of decentralization and legality.

Different countries and organizations have different rules when it comes to this matter. There is an important distinction between community-driven and central authority in anti-abuse.

I do not think anyone should bear the burden of interpreting different laws. Are we going to treat Steemians based on the jurisdiction in which they reside?

Outside the lack of expertise, I would think most would prefer things to be as simple as possible. Here are some examples I thought up:

If you did not create the work, don't accept the rewards

If the source of your inspiration did not permit you to create derivatives, it is best not to monetize it.

I have seen a number of people who assumed they could post creative commons as the sole content on Steem. This means, they would post a stock photo as a post. That is it. No blogs associated with it or anything. While their legal argument may be sound, it does not make sense on a blockchain.

Can you imagine if everyone did that? What type of redundant and pointless platform would we have? The blockchain does not even archive those images. The same could go for posting numerous YouTube videos that did not belong to them. Sure, it is most likely legal, but they are not archived.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to context. I am not saying sharing content should be 100% prohibited. But, like you pointed out, it is better to decline payouts for those occasions. Let's not get started on some of the recent art cases while we are at it.

Anyways, while this is an old topic, but it is a reoccurring issue.

You take care now.
