I'm doing something different this episode, I'm giving a steemer $18.00 Steem Dollars as my way of paying it forward. All you have to do is Resteem this post and leave a comment. (If this post earns more than $18)

You might ask why I am paying it forward, well that's how the story starts!

As we arrive at the museum we decide to have a coffee before taking the tour, there was an American woman standing just outside the cafe why asked us if we had bought our tickets yet, my first reaction was that she was up to something and was trying to sell us some sort of extra, but I was completely wrong, she just hands us a full ticket worth £18 free of charge, we thank her and move on to get coffee. A great start to the day!

All aboard! From one ticket to another, an original passenger ticket for the Titanic. Including Crew members there were 2,222 people on board. Keep in mind there was only enough space for 1,178 people on the life boats.

The ship was built in Belfast - Northern Ireland by Harland and Wolff

Harland and wolff made use of two gigantic cranes to build many of their ships, contrary to popular belief they were not used to build the Titanic as they were built much later. They get their names from the biblical characters Samson and Goliath. I think we see Samson in this photo.

Tensions have been brewing between England and Ireland dating back 800 years from the present day. British Rule was crippling the Island of Ireland boiling up to the easter rising in 1916 which resulted in an independent Irish republic and the public execution of our leaders in the streets by British soldiers. I want to show you a little about the lifestyle of those who built the Titanic who lived around this time.

Here is a replica of Harland & Wolff's shipyard during the Titanic's two year construction period of 31 March 1909 - 31 May 1911

The workers would be paid "32 bob fer 50 ar 60 ars workaweek" (This is how we talk, £32 per 50-60 hrs working week, sometimes £16 if you were an apprentice.)

The ship near completion, to try and put the Titanic's size into scale look at the dimensions of the museum itself. Each of the four corners are shaped to the exact dimensions of the hull of the ship. Here it is below in scale with a 3 story building!

Life on the ship could either be luxurious or not so great depending on if you were a first, second, or third class passenger. If you were in the lowest class you would have to bunk up with as many as four other people in a very confined while having to share an open toilet! If you were on the other side of the scale you would of had a large room with all the luxuries the time could offer.
I didn't take any good pictures of the replica rooms so here are some originals that I have found on google.

After 4 days on her maiden voyage the Titanic was sinking, here are some astounding facts about the sinking of the ship.

  1. The iceberg that took down the ship was only spotted 30 seconds before impact.
  2. The ship was 400 miles/640km from shore when it was hit.
  3. -2°C - the temperature of the sea water (around 28°F).
  4. The typical maximum life expectancy of the Titanic victims in the water was only 15-45 minutes.
  5. The rescue vessel Carpathia was 58 miles away at the time of the distress call.
  6. It took the ship 2 hrs 40 mins to sink.
  7. The band actually continued playing until the ship went down.
