First Garden

in #garden7 years ago

Our family is growing our first garden this year. We had debated on if we should since we bought our property and moved in early April. My husband @dwells wasn't really up for it but I convinced him that it would be a good idea. 😁

Now I have this little garden, that we probably started to late and I have no idea what to do next.

We planted jalapeno peppers, green peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, parsley and cilantro.

I plan on using different essential oils to help keep bugs and pest away.

I believe we did what they call the lasagna garden. Rabbit poo, cardboard and then mulch.

We just got them in the ground a few days ago. We had them in buckets before then.

Any advice would so be appreciated!
Thanks!

You know, from your description of yourself on your home page you have a lot in common with @mama-pepper! Very cool!

Sounds cool! @dwells just told me y'all would like to come over sometime. We should definitely plan that out!

We are open to meeting more folks in the general area, plus meeting more Steemians with similar interests.

Let's talk soon!

Lettuce and beans are easy. They grow all by themselves. Tomatoes don't like rain so you have to make a kind of roof over them if you really want nice tomato's. I find parsley and all kind of herbs very easy and tasty. They come back for a few years and it's amasing to see them grow.
Wish you luck!

Thank you for your reply! I have never heard of covering the tomatoes from rain. I will have to research that some. Thanks

Tha's why tomatoes are mostly in a greenhouse! No unexpected rain there!

Your garden looks great ! We went with the lasagna style too, and it's really low maintenance. @bluerthangreen and I also got a late start--better late than never! Good thing we have. Long growing season in arkansas :)

Thank you! Yes, I'm so thankful Arkansas has a long growing season. Next year we will be more prepared. But for now, it's just the essentials.

Yes us too. I just planted some cucumber seeds. Never tried a second growing season. We'll see what happens. Pretty low cost investment to test :)

Yes! That's what I told my husband. If it doesn't produce anything we aren't out that much money really. So it's worth it for the experience.
