The Dairy Game: My Garri processing day 3, 3th May.
INTRODUCTION
Hello my fellow stemians. I sure hope all is going on well with you guys. Well as for me, am doing just fine. It's my third day of garri process and I will be telling you what this day was like
Morning Activity: peeling the cassava continues and washing it
So I woke not too late and excited. If one may ask the reason for this happiness, I really don't know but there is just an inner joy within me making me super excited. It could probably be because it's weekend and we don't have to wake up by 5am for morning prayers. Morning prayers is from Monday through Friday, then Saturday and Sunday are for personal quiet time.
After morning prayer, I seriously went back to sleep, slept till 7:45 and I reluctantly left my bed cause at this point, my body didn't want to do this stress anymore. But what can I do? Man must work hard to survive as we all know that "the first law of nature is survival". Correct me if am wrong. You first hustle to survive before you even think of resting. Hmmmm... Today was different ooo. I didn't feel hungry so early in the morning, do I just brushed, went straight to the kitchen, got kitchen knife and went to continue peeling the remaining cassava. It wasn't much at all.
Afternoon Activity: Grinding the cassava
Soon we were done peeling the cassava and started Washing immediately. We normally use one of our clean and washed fish porn to wash the cassava. But hunger came to knock at the walls of my stomach, just then food was ready. Please no more waste if time.
After the peeling comes the washing of the peeled cassava with clean water without soap. Please soap is not needed maybe with a homemade sponge made from a sack bag. Wash them clean and bag then too getting it ready for grinding. You need to take it to a grinding mill for grinding and this will lead us to the next step.
This process is not necessarily for the owner of the cassava. You need to take it to the mill for grinding and take with you Palm oil for this process. The mill owner will help you grind the cassava for an agreed amount, but when the cassava is grounded, put a little amount of the palm oil into the cassava and mix it evenly till it's well mixed. Put it in small quantities and the bag must be one that can strain water out of the cassava.
Just incase you are wondering why we put red oil into the cassava, it is to reduce the acidic effects contained in the cassava. The grinder will put the bags in a straining machine to strain and squeeze out the water totally. This process might take a whole day or two depending on the quantity of the cassava. When the cassava is out of the straining machine, it is expected to be moisture free to aid easy frying of the cassava.
Evening Activity
I came back from grinding exhausted, tired and dirty. I didn't want to eat either. I went straight to my room, took my bathe and climbed my bed with immediate effect. I put on the fan at it's highest and covered my blanket. And the remaining events happened in my dream.
CONCLUSION
Thanks for reading guys. See you in my next post. Byeee!!!
Thank you for sharing your day. The process of making Garri is not always an easy task, it glad to know you did the process excited. I hope you got enough rest after the whole day of working hard.…..
