In the vast waters of the Sea of Whispers, a lone ship sailed under the starlight. On board, Captain Elías, a man whose reputation as a brave explorer was known in all ports. But that night, his heart beat with a mixture of fear and determination. In his hand, he held a worn postcard, the image of a lonely lighthouse on a remote island, and on the back, words that made his blood run cold: “I can't see you, but I'm always watching you.”

The postcard had reached him at every port, no matter how far away or how hidden he tried to be. Someone was following him, a stalker hiding in the shadows, always one step behind. Elías had decided to face his pursuer, taking his boat towards the lighthouse island, the origin of all his postcards.

The night was calm until a storm broke out with fury, as if the sea itself wanted to prevent him from reaching the island. Gigantic waves lashed the ship, and the wind howled through the torn sails. In an act of desperation, Elías tied the helm and held on to the postcard, his only link to the mysterious stalker.

“Show yourself!” He shouted to the sky, defying fate with the postcard held high. But fate responded cruelly, and a monstrous wave capsized the ship, throwing Elijah into the depths.

He woke up on the shore of the island, the postcard still in his hand. The lighthouse stood before him, a stone giant that defied time. With every step she took towards him, she felt the presence of his stalker intensify, a whisper on the wind that made her skin crawl.

The interior of the lighthouse was silent, save for the echo of his own footsteps. He climbed the increasingly narrow spiral steps until he reached the top. There, he found a room full of postcards identical to his own, each with the same disturbing phrase.

Suddenly, a voice broke the silence. “I can't see you,” he whispered, so close that Elías could feel her breath on the back of his neck. He turned quickly, but no one was there. The voice continued, “but I have always watched you, from when you were a child playing on the beach, until you became the captain you are today.”

Elías then understood that his stalker was not a man, but the island itself, an ancient spirit that had seen generations of sailors pass by. The island had chosen him, had called him through the postcards, to be its guardian, to share his secrets and legends.

Captain Elías accepted his fate. He was no longer a hunted man, but a lighthouse keeper, a teller of epic tales of the sea. And although his ship lay at the bottom of the ocean, his spirit sailed free, guiding the sailors with the light of the lighthouse and the whisper of the waves that told the legend of him.

Elías became the island's lighthouse, his presence as constant as the tides. Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, as he tended the lighthouse, making sure its light never went out. He learned to love solitude, to find company in the sound of the wind and waves, and in the stories that the island whispered to him.

But the island had more secrets to reveal. One day, while walking along the shore, Elijah found the remains of his shipwreck. Among the rubble, there was a carved wooden box, resistant to time and the sea. Inside, there was a collection of old postcards, each with an image of the lighthouse and the same haunting phrase: “I can't see you, but I'm always watching you.”

Elías understood that he was not the first to receive the call from the island. There were others before him, other lighthouse keepers who had been drawn to the same mystery. Each postcard was a legacy, a story of a previous guardian, and now he was part of that eternal chain. With each postcard he read, he felt his connection to the island strengthen. The stories of the ancient guardians intertwined with their own, and together they formed the epic of the island, a narrative that stretched beyond time.

The legend of Captain Elías and the lighthouse island became an epic story that was told in all corners of the world. Sailors from all over sailed near the island, hoping to see the light of the lighthouse or hear the captain's voice carried on the wind. And so, Elijah lived the rest of his days, not as a man pursued by a stalker, but as a beacon of hope to those who ventured into the vast and mysterious sea. His story, woven into the great epic of the island, became a living postcard, sent across the waves, carrying a message of courage, mystery and eternity.

I invite you to know a little more about me.

A lovely story! The lighthouse knows how to call the lighthouse keepers by using postcards and... A storyteller is always welcome. I wish I had such a card and could be on the island.

Iike to introduce you to a few more likeminded freewriters and storytellers
