Eurasian Collared-Dove (Original Photos/Videos)

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

I spotted a bird I do not usually see at my bird feeders, an Eurasian Collared-Dove.

Photographs taken on 11 August 2018.

Seldom Seen

Even though Nebraska is well within the year-round range of the Eurasian Collared-Dove, I rarely see one at my bird feeders. I was fortunate enough to spot the Eurasian Collared-Dove at the feeders this day. However, I was not close to the camera in the window. I knew that if I made any quick moves I could scare the Eurasian Collared-Dove away. So I slowly crept up on the camera to take a few photos and a video clip.

The Eurasian Collared-Dove is bigger than a Mourning Dove and slightly smaller than a pigeon.

Those are very nice photographs of the pigeon.

You are right that it is hard to capture good photos of birds and I will even say animals in general.

I had to decrease the exposure time to get the best shots. Some birds do not sit still.

For birds and other animals, I take a lot of photos and only publish the ones that come out. For the dove in my blog post, I had several photos where the dove's movement caused too much blur. I scrapped those photos.

Have a great week!

It is really difficult for me to take photographs of birds, you are an inspiration that it is possible to take such a great photo of a bird, thanks, I am just a beginner.

Everyone starts as a "beginner". I had a lot of practice before some success. And even today, I am still learning and practicing.

The best pictures are in this post. There were quite a few blurred pictures you did not see.

Under each photo is the exposure time used along with the f-stop. To eliminate the blur from the dove's movement I decreased the exposure time to 1/50 of a second. My camera's movie speed is 30 frames per second. Sometimes I will take pictures at 1/30 of a second exposure time to see how the movie still frames will look.

Back in the days when I started doing photography, it was all film. I usually had to wait 3 to 5 days for the film to be developed to know how they turned out.

Practicing different techniques with a digital camera is much more rewarding and allows you to make corrections quickly.

You too will produce great photos. Just keep practicing, learning, and experimenting.

Have a great week!

@etcmike GREAT WORK ! I also do blogs on mobile photography...plz check my photos and leave a comment how to make better clicks!

I upvoted a few of your blog posts! You are doing well.

You are doing mobile photography. And I am doing photography with a digital camera. It is a little different but the same principles apply.

One thing both methods have in common is lighting. Lighting can add some dramatic effects to one's photography.

You are well on your way.... keep practicing and experimenting.

Have a great week!

The feather of the bird looks so smooth. But I think they generally fly around in groups. The color of this dove and the size is more like Indian pegion.

What makes it unique us the collar colour. That is very unique and if I am not wrong then all the birds of this species has its own unique collar strip. It makes them stand different among others. It's like we human have our names and they have their unique collar.

You were lucky to see it and be able to take pictures of it. I try sometimes to take pictures of any random bird I see around my house and it's so hard. Lovely pics!

The first problem with taking pictures of birds is not scaring them. The next problem is snapping the photo when the bird is not moving.

I scrap many blurred pictures of birds to find just the right photos.
