My entry for the contest

The Best Day of the Week – A Moment That Meant Everything

Omo, this one choke. I’ve never been this happy for someone in a long time—and funny enough, it wasn’t even my win. It was my friend’s. But that day? It still felt like the best day of my week, maybe even my year.

Let me take you back a bit. I have this friend—my real G from way back. We grew up together, did almost everything together. You know that kind of friend you just click with naturally? Yeah, that’s her. We've shared laughs, struggles, even dreams for the future. So, when I got admitted into school before her, it was bittersweet.

Of course I was happy—I mean, it’s school, a whole new chapter. But as I stepped into that chapter, something just felt off. She wasn’t there. The person I imagined celebrating all those moments with wasn’t beside me. And even though I tried to stay strong and focused, deep down I wished we were doing it together.

She kept trying, applying, hoping. I kept praying for her, checking her CAPS like it was mine. There were days it felt like nothing was happening, and mehn, it hurt. You know how it feels when someone you love keeps waiting for their turn?

Then one day, boom—I saw it.

“ADMITTED.”

I screamed. I couldn’t even hold back the joy. I didn’t wait for her to check it herself—I just accepted it immediately like it was my own admission. That was the beginning of everything. From screening to registration to all the stress and fun in between, we did it together.

And finally, the day came—her matriculation.

Mehn, that day was special. Seeing her in her matric gown, all smiles, proud and glowing... I nearly teared up. I remembered everything: the waiting, the prayers, the quiet moments when she almost gave up. And now here she was, standing tall and looking so ready to conquer.

That day became my best day of the week.

Not because I achieved anything for myself, but because someone I love finally got what she truly deserved. And being part of that process—from the waiting to the winning—made it even more meaningful.

It reminded me that joy doesn’t always come from your own success. Sometimes, the deepest happiness comes from seeing someone you care about rise. Especially when you’ve seen their journey up close.

It also reminded me how powerful friendship is. Real ones stay with you when things are slow. They celebrate you when it’s finally your time. And if you’re lucky, you get to celebrate with them too.

So yeah, that’s why this day stood out. It wasn’t just her beginning—it felt like ours. A fresh page in a story we started together as kids. And no matter what comes next, I’ll always remember how that moment felt: pure, beautiful, and 100% worth the wait.

Thanks for reading, guys. Sometimes your best day isn’t when you win—it’s when someone you love finally shines.

Let’s keep showing up for each other. Always.
