Polygonatum multiflorum

in #nature6 years ago

One of the flowers my mum grows in her garden. And honestly I don't see it anywhere else. I have no idea where she got it from, but they are there since I remember (not gonna tell you how any years.. lots and lots ;) ).

The grow those large leaves that are very pretty and decorative on their own. An luscious carpet of green.
But if you lift them, you's see a small white bells with green tips. A well hidden blooms. Not sure what pollinators they are supposed to attract, but they do. After they are don't blooming a blue berries appear.

Those are not fully mature yet and will still grow a bit, whiten and then open the little green tip. Just like a bell.
Polygonatum multiflorum is also called Solomon's seal, David's harp, ladder-to-heaven or Eurasian Solomon's seal. Like to grow in shaded areas of the garden or woodlands and apparently is edible. But please do not try it at home if you are not 120% sure!

I found out that there is another type: Polygonatum odoratum that is native to some parts of Portugal. Never seen it though.

what a good post I love

I do not have enough shade for this plant.
I started a collection of Hoya or wax flower.

I have two Hoyas. One is growing like weed and blooms like mad, the other one doesn't want to bloom :p
You keep them outside?

For now they are in, because it is not good enough.
Do not put them in the sun.
After that, there are varieties growing faster than others,
there are some who bloom in the summer and some in the winter.

I don't know which ones I have. I got them as cuttings and they grow and grow...
One has fuzzy leaves that sometimes grow pink or creamy yellow.
The other one has glossy leaves with spots - very pretty ones!
