The tall tower on top of the coral island is called a lighthouse, which functions to help ships navigate. The light radiating from the lamp at the top of the tower is a sign that the area is shallow water and there are lots of coral around it.

When I see a lighthouse the question that arises is what is the life and challenges faced by lighthouse keepers?

The following is the story of Joko Darmaji, a 148 year old lighthouse keeper from the Dutch kingdom. This lighthouse was built by the king of the Netherlands, Z.M Willem III in 1869. This 48 meter high building is still sturdy and well maintained, located on Sebira Island. Previously, this lighthouse was the only one that guided the path of Dutch ships from Bangka and Singapore that wanted to enter the port of Tanjung Priok.

Joko has served for 27 years as a lighthouse keeper. He has maintained lighthouses on several islands.
Joko is often assigned to uninhabited islands. Stress and loneliness have become part of his life.

Many mystical incidents are often encountered while on duty. At first he felt afraid, but because he had experienced it many times, he finally considered the ghost that was bothering him as a friend in carrying out his duties.

There are no holidays in carrying out duties. He only got permission to go home when there was a family member's wedding party and the Eid al-Fitr holiday. There is no turning back in carrying out your duties. For Joko, resigning is the same as betraying life.

Perhaps boylikesgirl upvotes? You received and upvotr from them. You also will if you post in their community I think. I will try it out.

It reminds me of a animation or story about a lighthousrle watcher. His grandson visited him. Grandma went home, grandpa had a heartattack and the young boy had to be the new lighthouse watcher. I think with a job like that you have to like to be alone, watch the sea. Perhaps a crazy writer or painter would be perfect.

A job that only a few people are able to do, requires sacrifice and courage and extraordinary boredom for people who don't like to be alone.

If Joko went to different islands he should have co-workers. I wonder did he volunteer for this job? It might help if he had some company. A dog or cat, a parrot perhaps? Gardening would be good but on rocks not much is possible. It feels sad to me.

Joko was appointed as a civil servant at the Ministry of Transportation. Joko does not want his work to be continued by his descendants. So it is very difficult to become a lighthouse keeper, it requires extra tenacity and patience.

thank you for your visit.

I understand. Thank you for explaining.
