First Trip Together on a Boat

Traveling, from children to adults are certainly happy to hear this word. In filling the time off during the Labor Day commemoration, last May 1, my family and I tried to go to a small island that is still in the Langsa City area. Our main goal was not to see the beauty of the island, because this island has a picture that is very far from the word "beautiful". The most important thing for me and my family was the experience of traveling by boat, because my biggest son Khalif was very curious about how it felt to ride a ship, which he had only seen on television or smartphones.

That morning after showering and having breakfast together, we prepared food for lunch, the children excitedly got into the car to leave for the harbor. When we arrived at the harbor, I parked the car among the pick-ups lined up, which looked like cars that would be used to transport caught fish. The people at the harbor looked at us, probably wondering what we were doing here. We head to the dock, and there are already small boats docked waiting for passengers and goods to be loaded and carried.

I got into the red boat, there were two other passengers already seated inside, then twenty rectangular chunks of ice were loaded on the boat, and once they were all loaded, the boat was ready to go.
The boat ride to our destination island took about 25 minutes. All around us, apart from the sea water, we could see mangrove trees in the distance, which is the main attraction of this place. From inside the boat, my children continued to stare at the sea water that we passed. If you're lucky, sometimes dolphins can be seen dancing in the waters.

Although the scorching sun made the dolphins reluctant to make an appearance, there were other creatures in sight, a few jellyfish on the surface, and their presence distracted my children because of their unique shapes. I explained to Khalif that jellyfish are dangerous because they are poisonous. I added that jellyfish have no brain, no blood and no bones, as most of their body is made up of water. Khalif listened to my explanation seriously.

As our journey continued, I sought another position outside to look around. I stood next to the skipper, who was focused on controlling the ship; he seemed to be communicating with his friend on another ship. No sooner had I stood outside than the houses of the people on the island began to appear, and we arrived at our destination. As I said at the start, there was nothing of interest on the island, with limited clean water and large amounts of rubbish being the main problems.

Not wanting to linger in this place, just walking and buying salted fish, we returned to the boat that we had boarded for the trip back to the port of origin.

This was our first experience as a family traveling together on a small boat, I was very happy to see the children who were very enthusiastic throughout the trip. For Khalif himself, today's moment made a very meaningful impression, as evidenced when the next day at school, there was a drawing lesson in his class, and the picture drawn by Khalif is as below.
