What makes paw paw fruit so special, why do most people love the sweet taste of Pawpaw, The fruit is a spheroid similar in shape and size to the mango, and usually present in a cluster of 2 to 11 fruits per bunch. It has a thin external layer, a creamy flesh and numerous seeds (no more than 16 per fruit, nor more than 12% of the total weight of the fruit).

Attention! Its seeds are poisonous, like many other seeds (for example the peach), but in this case it is easier for a child to agree to bite than the one that is enclosed within the hard bone of the aforementioned peach2 3

Depending on the variety, the weight of the fruit is between 75 g and 300 g. The fruit tastes banana or plantain banana, banana, but a little sweeter, by 80%, mango by 15%, and other flavors (vanilla, pineapple, etc) by 5%.

It is a plant recently introduced in Europe (especially good varieties), and many fans of fruit trees that already enjoy their fruits frame it among their three favorite fruits.

Pawpaw is a small continental tree from the southeastern United States. Although it is categorized as tropical, its great resistance to cold allows its cultivation in Europe, where it has recently been introduced. It is the only species belonging to the Anonaceae family (family of angiosperms of the order Magnoliales) that lives outside of tropical climates.

In spring they begin to sprout their characteristic purple flowers, composed by three green sepals and 6 purple petals in two levels, which, give way to the edible fruits, of yellowish or greenish color, that mature in the beginning of autumn happening to have a dark brown color.

Its fruit is similar, in shape and size, to the mango and is usually presented in a bunch. It has a thin outer layer, a creamy fleshy layer and numerous seeds, which are poisonous. The flavor of the fruit is similar to that of the banana banana, but sweeter; although this depends on the varieties, as some have a flavor similar to mango. They are frequently eaten raw, in ice cream and empanadas.

Its resistance to cold (up to -25 ° C) allows its cultivation also in Europe, still having the character of tropical fruit. It is a shrub, or relatively small tree, no more than five meters high.

The development in its first two years should be in complete absence of direct sun (but with light) because these plants grow in dense forests. In the third year they require half shade and direct sun from the fourth (at least the sun from the north of Spain).

It is advisable to leave a separation of 2.5 m between plant and plant. There are very few varieties that are known to be self-fertile. Most varieties require a different variety to be pollinated
