Spirited Away Movie Reviews: Imaginable "Isekai" Enjoyed
Have a lot of reviews about Spirited Away. The film was first aired in Japan 15 years ago and as CEO Kaninga Pictures Willawati says, there are many people who access Ghibli movies (including this of course) in various ways, including by downloading.
Unlike the other reviews that have covered A to Z what Hayao Miyazaki wants to present to his audience (at the time), this review is written in the world where your name. exploded in Indonesia, the political year, and how the position of Ghibli in the eyes of anime fans in Indonesia today. This review is intended for anime fans who will get acquainted with the movie Ghibli and want to make Spirited Away as his first Ghibli movie.
Chihiro is a 10-year-old girl who was born into a Japanese middle class family. One day, Chihiro and his parents visit a hallway and find themselves stranded in another world. In this other world, he lived in Yuuya, a place of rest and baths for the Jinn and the gods. Her presence as a lost man was recognized by Lin, who guided her so that Chihiro could meet the wizard Yubaba, the ruler of Yuuya.
Yubaba who is greedy and always thinking about money scares Chihiro, but ultimately agrees to make Chihiro his worker. His name was changed to Sen and he was then guided by Haku, the boy who watched Yuuya when Yubaba left.
Sen was surprised to see that his parents had been bewitched by Yubaba into a pig. Sadly, Sen started his new life in another world. His first job was to serve the most disgusting guest, Dewa Bau, where Sen was secretly helped by a mysterious figure, whom he called Without Face (Kaonashi-san.) His journey restored his parents.
A Very Familiar Theme, In A Fantasy Feel
Susan Napier managed to publish a separate paper specifically to discuss Spirited Away. But for anime viewers in Indonesia who first watch Kimi no Na wa. (Your Name), will feel a very familiar atmosphere in the mid to late story. The relationship between Haku and Chihiro provides an atmosphere similar to that of Taki and Mitsuha, separated by different dimensions and united by the same memories.
In this fantasy world, Miyazaki-sensei provides many symbols representing Japanese society. When Chihiro greets the stinking deity who comes and helps him to soak, it is revealed that the god of the real smell is the famous river god, but is polluted by human trash. Similarly, when he saw the Non-Face, who devours the workers in Yuuya and is so angry to look for Chihiro.
Chihiro reminded also of the figure of Fubuki from Kantai Collection. His passionate spirit (not to mention that the aura is similar), how he matures suddenly, and his determination to leave the world of isekai, the place where he makes many memories, is displayed beautifully without any sexual impression.
Isekai is Full of Adventure
But the part that makes the 1.5 hours in this movie seem short is how each of the story fragments has power, but switches subtly. For example, when Chihiro struggles to sneak into Yubaba's throne, then moves when Chihiro begs work for him (and asked not to petrify). Then beautifully, Chihiro meets Without Face for the first time, until finally Without Face managed to screw up the inn.
His subtle assimilation with a relevant style fifteen years later proved his class. If this film is played randomly among lay people, not many people think this movie is much older than Air or Lucky Star, where the biggest complaint of anime fans today is the sense of turn-off to see the style of the old anime-anime drawing.
The Right Gate To Enter the Ghibli World
Spirited Away presents an adventure story that is easily accessible to anyone. In contrast to the politically charged Nausicaa The Wind Rises that make the audience (read: anime fans) imagine "oh this is Evangelion's predecessor," this film ushered its audience to enter the other side of the Japanese anime world. The other side is named Ghibli world, and open them to enjoy Kiki's Delivery Service and more. Anime that is not anime.
Positive
Without adventuring, bringing the theme of isekai (read: fantasy) without making the audience feel confused (as if to follow Harry Potter)
Songs, both BGM and stunning themes
Very smooth and detailed animations like nothing else
It's Ghibli
Negative
For those who find anime identical to instant adventures, it would be hard to accept this anime because of its gentle, slow, and not immediate flow of conflict
It's Ghibli
