DailyCelestialChallenge-AnimalKingdom: (Crocodiles)

With a penetrating and dark look, the crocodile awakens the fear of many and the admiration and respect of others. It is an imposing reptile that is well worth knowing.

Crocodiles are the reptiles that have lived with us for more than 240 million years and today are the largest reptiles that populate the earth. With us you will be able to know the evolution that this species has followed during so many years, besides knowing other species that have been emerging from the primitive ones and that currently live with us.

They are dominant reptiles, for their aggressiveness and strength
The crocodile lives in tropical areas of Africa, North America, Central America, Australia and some parts of Asia most of its life is spent in the water, either sweet or salty.

Characteristics of the crocodile

It can weigh up to 800 kilos. Its thick and rough skin has been longed for by the human being to use it in the leather goods business. It is not surprising that the crocodile does not get along with man ... This act has put the reptile in danger of extinction, and that is why it is increasingly punished by the law. In fact, new laws are being created constantly to stop this action.

Crocodiles are one of the largest predator species that exists on earth even more than the tigers and lions and other predators that we can find today. They are only surpassed by aquatic animals such as the white shark and the whale for the rest they are the largest carnivorous animals by far.

The crocodiles need not be said to be carnivorous animals, since simply by seeing their teeth we can get an idea of what they can do to their prey. The crocodiles are quite opportunistic reptiles, in the sense that they are going to feed themselves and they will be seen attacking any type of animal that is in their way. When it is young, it is very common for it to eat fish or crustaceans that it finds when it is in the water, however when it is already an adult it is capable of hunting larger mammals such as horses, camels among others. For other species of crocodiles such as yacarés, they will only feed on small animals.!

In spite of its pointed and enormous teeth, this animal can not chew, so when it grabs a prey it tears it into large pieces and swallows it whole. It is then when their powerful gastric juices come into play that they complete the work of digestion.

It is known by all that reptiles are stealthy, and this exemplar is no less. Under the water it approaches little by little its prey while it drinks water from the river. When more clueless, it rushes against her and drags her into the river, where a fight that the reptile seldom loses will begin.

Despite its majesty, the crocodile is an animal that seems terrifying to many, but, undoubtedly, it is a fascinating specimen that has been worth knowing, do not you think?

Until a next opportunity.
