Steemit Crypto Academy minggu 7: Koin stabil - Part2 || USDC
Hello steemit friends, it's great to be able to participate in steemit crypto academy week 7: stable coins - part2 lectured by professor @yohan2on.
I have chosen one of the stablecoins, namely USDC.
Digital assets are known to have high volatility. The fluctuations are very significant and dramatic. Some examples include Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum.
However, did you know that there are crypto assets whose fluctuations are not as dramatic as Bitcoin. These crypto assets are better known as stablecoins.
Stablecoins are crypto assets that tend to be stable in value. This is because their value is tied directly to fiat currencies, such as the US dollar. Not surprisingly, this crypto asset is often used as an alternative means of investing or saving money on an exchange to prevent losses while trading.
What is USD Coin (USDC)?
USD Coin (USDC) is a relatively new stablecoin whose value is also pegged to the US dollar. Launched on September 26, 2018, this stablecoin is a form of collaboration between Circle and Coinbase. Just like Tether, USDC is an alternative to crypto assets backed by the value of the US dollar.
USDC is a service for creating US dollar tokens and facilitating their use over the internet and public blockchain. In addition, USDC tokens can be converted back into USD at any time, because the execution of the issuance and exchange of USDC tokens is done with the ERC-20 smart contract.
USDC is an ERC-20 token that allows users to make payments, loans, investments and trades. The ecosystem will grow as more fiat tokens are added. A transparent, open-source framework that fiat can use to interact with smart contracts. At the time of writing, USDC is ranked 12th in the world based on Coinmarketcap.com, with a Whole Market Cap of $ 10,327,186,924.
How USDC Works
Circle company guarantees that each USDC token is worth the same as one US dollar. The process of converting US dollars into USDC tokens is called tokenization.
There are three steps to tokenizing USD to USDC:
The user sends the US dollar fiat currency to the token issuing bank account.
Issuer uses smart contracts to create an equivalent amount of USDC.
The newly created USDC will be sent to the user, while the US dollars received by the token issuer are kept as a reserve.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, USDC can be exchanged into US dollars through a redeeming process.
The Future of Stablecoins In Crypto Market
It's clear that stablecoins will play a major role in the future of the cryptocurrency industry. They will help drive long-term adoption and use, especially as they can overcome the major obstacles that have historically kept crypto from being used as a native daily currency, namely massive volatility and short-term fluctuations in value.
In the past, cryptocurrency has become a big problem and is considered not able to become a currency because of its instability like Bitcoin which has positioned it as an opportunity for investment, rather than a normal currency for day-to-day transactions. But this is now changing thanks to the growing prominence of stablecoins, which are helping to ease concerns around volatility.
As well as building trust in these technologies, they will act as a bridge to mainstream crypto adoption by helping consumers and businesses recognize the value cryptocurrencies can offer society. Stablecoins provide users with access to assets not only for speculative investing, but also offer the price consistency needed to form the backbone of a new economy. These qualities, combined with the implementation of innovative payment solutions that use stablecoins as a transport currency to facilitate crypto-fiat exchanges, are what will drive crypto development in the future.
Cryptocurrencies are sure to remain and it seems increasingly likely that stablecoins will be the answer to reducing that friction, increasing stability and, ultimately, enabling the future of digital money.
That's all from me @fikar1213, hopefully it can add useful knowledge for all of us. thank you
