Freewrite Day 492 Double Crossed
Until this week, I had no idea how much money there is in games at steem. It turns out that some steemers are “investing” large sums of money into them.
In @drugwars, some pay 800 steem at a time to upgrade buildings and add storage, and other things I do not know what they are. Apparently those people will kill all the rest of us when the battles get activated again. I am only in there earning tiny amounts of steem each day and do not plan to play. But soon I will not be able to enter the game at all because the big guys have bots that will attack as soon as I login in. Hmmm...
In @magicdice, some people bet 100’s of steem at a time. I’m betting .25 steem a day in order to possibly get the magic dice vote. This is working and I have two large votes so far, so I cannot complain.
In @steemmonsters, some people have paid big money for cards that did not hold their value and so they can only sell them at a loss, even if they can sell them at all.
This astounds me as I sit here scribble scrabbling away to earn enough money to survive on each month and barely make it with the help of many friends.
I stumbled on to a post about the monsters game where people are very upset because they bought cards thinking XXX and now it really means YYY. And on top of that, now that they bought the cards, they have to pay more if they want to enter tournaments to play with them.
These are adults, mind you. Playing games. The accountant in me shrivels up and dies.
I used to have a website giving people advice on retirement accounts back in the day. When I did budgets for people on that site, there was never once a line item for “games.” Maybe there would be now.
All of the games I mentioned tell you up front not to expect to make money or even break even. But as usual, hope springs eternal.
My son @bxlphabet is blogging about his efforts to enjoy @steemmonsters as a free to play (f2p) game. Thank You God for giving him this idea. That last thing I need right now is to be buying virtual cards for a game that is not working out for most people already.
I hope my son has fun and I hope that the @steemmonsters votes on his posts will pay off the 10 steem for the starter pack soon. After that, it will be gravy.
My post is for the #freewrite daily challenge by @mariannewest. Freewrite is a great way to post on steemit when you do not think you have the time, or talent, or anything to say. It’s a great way to start regular posting on steemit. I know you can do this too! Here is Marianne’s freewrite prompt post for today. Give it a try and surprise yourself.

Statistics say that only 5% of people with health resolutions for the New Year will still be on track after Super Bowl Sunday. Is your fitness equipment still out handy, and are you still on a "diet?"
I lost "Half My Size" eight years ago by using natural methods. I started on December 5th and did not give up. You can do it too!

I'm not sure if it is good or bad that I am not playing any of those games. I don't have the time right now, but, people are truly addicted to some of them!
Which, of course, means I will have to look at them some time soon. :)
Hope all is well with you.
!tip
I don't think it is wise to look into things that suck people in LOL. Better run the other way. Steem is a timesuck already :)
OMG!! You are so funny! Steem is a timesuck!!! Big time! LOL I haven't played any of the games and I am sure I won't be able to, even if I wanted to. I am not a huge tv person or things of addictive nature, so it probably wouldn't hang on to my attention.
But, you are right!
I go in to magic dice once or twice a day. It is so boring and I am never bored. You, set a parameter, click once, win or lose, and then do it again if you want to. I only do it one time for each of three blogs to be "active" in there in order to get a chance for the fat votes they give. During this 2 minute event, I see others on the feed who do it 10 times and lose, lose, lose. It's really amazing to see. They were there before I got there and still there when I leave.
Oh, my!! No thank you!! You have to lose something, right? SD? $$ Can you smell my ignorance?
Consistently losing and playing again?
Sounds like a habit that went rampant! Yikes! :)
I usually win. I am betting .25 steem and get .26 steem back. I am betting that the dice will be 1-93. If it goes to 94-100, I lose the whole .25.
But I have only lost once or twice and the votes I have so far are about $9, I think. And I get dividends from some offer they did a few weeks ago.
I've read posts about people losing ALL their liquid steem in minutes.
Wow! You will probably laugh at this, but, I never have .25 steem left over. Silly, right? Well, I don't have much SP, but, I don't grow very much or fast because all of my available cash goes into tip money. Especially on #MarketFriday, if I have 25 people post, which sometimes there is more, I tip them on my post and theirs so that is 50 tips alone and then there are always comments on it, so that may be another small bunch.. it adds up and then I usually post every single day and yes, it has become habit to tip everyone.
I sometimes wonder if that small tip means anything or am I just wasting my money?
That is a tough one to answer. I don't know. It feels good to do it, but, if it is a waste of $$ - I don't want to do that either. Right?
Oh, decisions, decisions!!
You are one of a few people who tips me, and I totally appreciate it each time. I have on my list to look into it for myself since my vote also is not worth much.
At the moment, I lease delegated sp with steem and also power down each week to live off the cash. I also post a lot more than you on two blogs, so we have different paradigms here.
But wow! That is a lot of tipping!
I love your tips!! It feels nice. That said, if you burn all your earnings and more, it is not very sustainable. My strategy has been to power up as much as I can so I can give out bigger and bigger votes...
To me, that was the more sustainable options since until very recently, I really couldn't afford to invest any fiat into the Steemverse and with all the freewriters I want to award, I couldn't have tipped very often.
So, know that every one of your tips has indirectly voted on a freewriter 😄
Just feels like a waste of time to me. If I play cards, I want to do that with people in the room... Just an RL person in many ways. 🤪
I have never done any of those, but we do have a game night here at the house! ;)
Come on over!
I love to!! Next trip LOL
Game night is so fun! All of my family still loves it and the ones who don't live home, but, close enough come home for it. We try to make it on a telecommuting day (Yes! We have those here, courtesy of Uncle Sam and the Washington, DC commute!)
One night I crushed them in scrabble (okay, I always do) and now nobody will play with me. Pfffft. Babies! Mama needs to feel like a winner! LOL
I hear this week is going to be Apples to Apples... I haven't played that in a while. We do have poker night when my brothers come in bands of two or three. :)
You too, Denise, @dswigle. I had on my list to go check on you. I hope everything is going good with you now. We missed you!
Well, you know I really missed doing #MarketFriday, but, it just wasn't meant to be last week. That never happens.
It will be up and running next week.

It is quite an interesting phenomenon. I think people just like games and gambling in general, because it triggers a certain amount of dopamine. Of course, these games sometimes have incentives and systems to trick people into feeling the are up even when they are losing. Haven't played any of the games, so actually not sure if these steemgames are the same. Besides why not have a little fun with steem. I remember that games like Farmville and Maffiawars were big on Facebook before the eventual adpocalypse. I know.... totally different, there were no currency rewards, but if you get a reward, doesn't it make it more fun 😅.

Well, I am not a gamer in any way. I'm old and never liked board games or card games or anything like that. So I am a big weirdo. I have only played a few like tetris. The repetition and colors can hypnotize me so I stay away. And I do not like to gamble one bit.
My whole life is already fun - hence, my name. But I am an accountant, so my fun is not like most people's :)
Hahaha... yup, I can understand why throwing away money isn't considered fun in that case.
Repetition and colors of Tetris can be hypnotizing..hmm... that's why that game is so addictive!

I got into it a bit maybe 15 years ago. Tetris and a few others like it came loaded on some computer I had. After a couple of months i deleted all of them. I do not need any extra ways to waste time!
"I do not need any extra ways to waste time!"
Something I say on a daily basis.
Like when I watch youtube videos of the Tetris World Championships 😂😂😂.
All jokes aside. There now is a 16 year old kid named Joseph that is defying the laws of Tetris, won the world championship defeating the 7 time world champion in his first try and is currently breaking all possible world records.
Yes, I just spend a full paragraph raving about Tetris 😅.

Well, you are more doing things than I am doing. LOL. I have not played any of them - partly, because I don't have time to get into something else, partly because I will not spend money on games, and partly, because I do not like the name drugwars.
I'm with you on all three. But I will take the free money! I was getting .02 steem a day from drug wars now less than .01 and dropping fast. You missed that boat. Steemmonsters is a dead dog. The only one I like is magic dice. We have $10 in votes so far and teeny winnings too. I had to tell caleb NEVER to go in to magic dice though. I roll once on each account and leave. In that short time I see 100's if not 1000's of steem be lost by others. Unreal in light of my life.
for sure unreal!! But for many, Steem is just play money - kind of like Monopoly...
Apparently so. I'm trying to prove it can be and is more than that. A lot of people could live off of what is going on in there :)
