Artistic space #125 - 5 most expensive contemporary artists
5 most expensive contemporary artists
On several occasions, I have spoken about contemporary art, with no intention of offending any of the artists mentioned in this publication I have made a list of the 5 contemporary artists who have sold more expensive their works. I say no offense since some of these works, in my opinion, should not be considered works of art, it is no secret that the art world today is more speculative and that many millionaires buy works of art for social positioning, it is not enough to have money just have some works "unique" to take advantage of the status quo of these people.
Anish Kapoor
The first artist on the list is of Indian origin, at some point makes a publication about his life and work, is recognized for his large installation, which is present in several cities around the world, one of his most emblematic sculptures is Cloud Gate which is located in the city of Chicago, but it was in the growing economy of the Middle East where the artist's works began to be quoted at high prices. Today he qualifies as one of the most quoted artists in the history of art in life, from the beginning of his artistic career until 2008 the number of works sold by auction reached 13 million euros, but it was not until 2009 when one of his works was sold for the astonishing price of 1596 million dollars.
Giovanni Anselmo
The second artist is Giovanni Anselmo, the Italian sculptor, and painter, known as the creator of the movement art Provera or poor art, a movement that was born in the 1960s until the 1970s, an art born after the Second World War in order to make harsh criticism of the system of consumption, so this artist was recognized on the cultural scene of the time by the ability to generate and move the bases of art in Europe. Some of his works such as the emblematic Torsion that was made in 1968 was sold for 6.4 million dollars.
Luo Zhongli
This artist of Chinese origin is one of the most outstanding in the artistic movements of Asia. His famous works of portraits of agricultural workers, as well as various rural landscapes of China gave him recognition, according to figures Artprice the artist achieved in just one auction win the figure of 25 million euros, his last work sold at a good price was his painting Spring Silkworms which was sold for 7 million euros.
Zeng Fanzhi
Another Chinese artist, who has earned space among China's first contemporary painters, some of his works have been sold for millions of euros such as his work The Last Supper which was sold for 23 million euros, another of his most recent works was sold for 60 million euros, is currently in Artprice's Top 500 at number four.
Christopher Wool
He is a New York artist who made his career between the sixties and eighties, is known for belonging to the movement underground his most recognized work is called Apocalypse Now and was sold for 30 million euros in 2013. This artist was studying art at an academic level but desisted from studying to become an anti-academic painting, so he began his work in the underground movement to become one of the most recognized.

The art world is an extraordinary market place to be sure. You have a good list here and some if not all of them create amazing art. It is better than some things to invest in I suppose haha
