A Witch in the Kitchen: "Delicious Powdery (with vegetable shortening)"

in OCD5 years ago

Hello My Dear Little Witches...

A good time ago I made some delicious powder kegs or "mantecadas", which are very typical of the Christmas season, since they are made with lard, and since in these times the consumption of pork and the production of its fat increases, this tradition was given origin because it is called like that, they are very popular in Spain, however in Venezuela it is also very commonly seen in bakeries and sales of traditional sweets, since it has been adopted by us. However, we have not consumed it for a considerable time at home, as we are eliminating the consumption of food of animal origin.

But the desire to eat powdery as they are known in my country, have been very big, so I decided to prepare some powder kegs with vegetable lard, which is a lard made from vegetable oils such as palm, sesame, soy and sunflower among others, can also be made from coconut oil, they are just as delicious, besides this recipe is by far one of the easiest, added to this only three basic ingredients are used, so making them is not only simple, but super economical.

Its attractive and main characteristic is that these are cookies that literally melt in your mouth, they are very soft and to be honest, they are also addictive, so it is a recipe that I usually do not make, because it has a high fat content, they are very delicious, but as in this life, not everything can be perfect. Come with me and I'll show you how you can make your own vegans powder kegs or powdery Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 800 grams of wheat flour.
  • 400 grams of vegetable shortening.
  • 500 grams of sugar.
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon (optional).
  • Grate an orange (optional).
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder or chemical yeast.

Preparation

  • Difficulty Level: Low
  • Preparation time: 20 minutes
  • Cooking time:15 minutes

In a large bowl add the wheat flour, baking powder and sugar and mix, add the cinnamon and orange zest (this is optional).

We continue adding the vegetable shortening and proceed to knead, for this we use our hands, we integrate everything very well and we go to a table to knead for about 10 minutes, until we obtain a compact dough.

To give shape to these powdery ones many use a roller and flatten the dough to a thickness of 1 centimeter, however I prefer to assemble a cylinder and cut the portions with the help of a knife (I think it's easier and faster that way), we arrange them on a tray with baking paper and take them to a preheated oven at 180°C, for about 15 minutes or until they start to brown underneath.

Now all we have to do is let it cool down and taste these delicious powdered products, without any remorse because they are made from vegetable shortening, and much more delicious than the traditional ones. Now I just have to hide them from myself hahaha

Going to try this myself soon

I think it needs a lot of effort in doing that but anyway you did it very well. That's perfect for snacks but isn't it expensive in making it?

It is much easier and cheaper than you think, and they are very delicious!
