Gratitude day 2: I am so grateful to the man who brought me into IT
This is a challenge organized by @tojukaka to run for just 62 days. The essence is to let us write why we are grateful for each day. This is my day 2 post for the gratitude day challenge.
Yes. Several years ago, I was thinking that by today, i would be an Electrical Engineer. Thanks to the education system here in my area where you struggle many years to get admission. So I took JAMB exams for 3 years in a row; passed all but "failed" the aptitude test each time. So i was never granted admission to study Electrical Engineering. Note: JAMB is a University entrance Examination in Nigeria which you must pass before you qualify to take another aptitude test in your tertiary institution of choice.
So after 3 years of "failing" aptitude tests, I was getting frustrated. That was 2007. A nice family friend suggested if i could be interested in learning web designing and internet business. I decided not to spend another year with JAMB. I accepted his offer and enrolled in a 1 year course to study web and internet business. That was the beginning of my journey in Information Technology. I finished the course and and spent another year with Data Swift Limited. In that extra year, I applied for and got admission in one of the Polytechnics to study Computer Science. I continued my IT journey and the rest is simply history.
I write this post because sometimes, i wonder how and where I would have ended up with Electrical Engineering. It is a very nice course; very nice career. But I whole-heratedly loved how it all ended - I am enjoying IT. How wonder whether I would be in tune with Information Technology like I knew it today. Sure, I might have known how to use Whatsapp and Facebook. But I would not have learnt graphics, web hosting, Wordpress, drop shipping, and many other areas I ventured into in IT. I probably would not have met steemit. I would have owned a laptop, but I would not have had computer hardware knowledge. All these would not have been possible because I had gone into Electrical Enginering. Probably, I would have learnt other things in the electrical field. I would have excelled. But given how much IT has evolved and given how much IT has controlled the world and influence it, I forever remain happy with being in this career.
So it's time to reveal the man that made me join IT. The man that thought me web and showed me a motherboard for the first time. The man that thought me web technology and hosting. He is still doing the business of IT. Currently he is into Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency business. He is still into web and is doing school management software for private high schools. Ladies and gentleman, lets meet Mr. Mendohz Uche Olivers. He is the man for which I made this post. I still run to him if I face a diffult challenge in Web designing. He is an entrprenuer and continue to inspire a lot more youths to succeed in IT.
I say thank you sir for this opportunity you gave me which I took with both hands. I will remain grateful for it. You are an inspiration for many. Continue to do good as you are well-known for.
