Are you happy with stinc's leadership up to this point?

Ok, dear reader, we are at a cross roads on steem.
The original design has been hijacked.
To deflect from that the ceo pointed out that rewards for blogging were not the first idea.
Distribution of the coin was the first idea.
Therefore, the original idea has been hijacked by dan creating a paid blogging site.

If we take ned at his word, that silly stuff is going away because we dont need rewards when we can just give steem to our friends and sycophants and be over run with salivating investors wanting more.

In this instance i think its time for the community to look at protecting itself from those that would destroy the potential of what we have here.
We can let ned go his own way, build his utopia, while not allowing him to wreck steem further.

We only need 21 witnesses and one dev to fork us into community control rather than stinc control.

Why do you figure stinc has demolished steem's success?
I dont know, but there is this:

Were the ned delegations taken out of the math your vote would have more value.
Was the ninja mine to be eliminated from the math steem works as designed.

The n2 encourages keeping stake in one account, discourages selfvoting, gives more value to each subsequent vote rewarding popularity, and works for everybody, not just the wealthy few.

It looks like the only way to get stinc et al's influence off our good thing is to fork.

When we do that they can continue driving their steem off a cliff and we can fix the rewards scheme in ours back into one that drives adoption.

There are many things that need to be thought about.
We need to keep one account to rule them all so that collusive scammers can be downvoted before they vote themselves to the top.
We know the accounts im talking about, they have the highest reputations in steem.

Once we set our fork in motion we want to keep changes to a minimum.
Let the design work to change us rather than the other way around.

We should strive to repel the greedy f**ks that only worry about taking that next dime from the schmucks.
We know who they are, they made steem the shiny success it is today.

The ceo has spoken.
Rewards and blogging are going away.
I wonder how much of the original code is even still available on github.
We know bad actors are not above memory holing things to win.

Sadly, their zealous need to dominate others has led us here.
What will we do?

Sort:

Repelling greedy f*cks, whew! That could be a lifes work. It's sad to see Ned and stinc deep six this site. I really enjoy the community, and this site let me buy a bacon sandwich with blog rewards, so yeah I like it.

Fork this ship!
I honestly have only the slightest of understanding of block chain tech. That said, may as well. Groups like Smoke.io and other like minded servers would run the nodes? I believe that this community has enough resources in the system to create a blog for rewards fork. I like the idea, and honestly I am glad there are folks smarter than I am to do the under the hood work.

I had a steemit meme... must be on another system, still this seems relavent.

Oppressive systems are built to create profits from refugees. In this instance we are refugees of our own "decentralized" community.

Yeah, tooo many crapitalusts at the helm of this ship, they ran off the guy that made it work.

I'm for a fork, too.
Coup!!

But realistically, it would have to be a palace coup, and they aren't ready, just yet.

I am still in the plankton, but I am happy with Ned's announcement that he wants to move away from User Interface development to concentrate on the blockchain.

This is the way a distributed marketplace is supposed to work.

Each of the pieces of a distributed system should co-evolve.

What has happened in STEEM-verse is that all of the development was building a dangerous dependency on SteemIt Inc.

The collapse in the price of STEEM and the inability of SteemIt.com to retain customers has the people who developed dependencies on the STEEM blockchain to come up with alternatives to that dependency.

I agree that there are some nasty fundamental problems with SteemIt. Instead of thinking of a hardfork, I am hoping that the people developing STEEM dependent dapps come up with robust alternatives to STEEM.

Evolution, BTW, is not simply people coming up with better ideas. It is about ideas developing in cycles with ideas emerging and dying off on a regular basis.

IMHO, Ned's announcement and the existential crisis faced by Steem based dapps is a good thing. It usually takes a generation or two to realize foundational mistakes.

I love Sub.Media and the Stimulator.

They have been at it for a long time.
I need to buy some more stuff from them.

Where did ned say, that blogging and rewarding have to go? And why?
If so.. We don't need Stinc anymore, anyways.
Anarchie.

It's in live stream number 3 on his page.

Bury heads in sand? Keep saying it will all be alright? Encourage (idiots) people to buy more steem power? I have seen all of that and much more this last few days!

Scammers gonna scam,....

I still think it is a good investment, at <.50usd, but it needs an exorcism of it's demons.

I know it does, though how we going to get there?................

Fork away the problems,...

I do not see any qualified forkers!

Weve got them, just have to sell them on the idea.
Unless we get listed on exchanges its not gonna happen.
That means a palace coup.

Come on, lets be serious here.
Steemit was perfectly viable when it was trading at 7 cents yes?
There is no way anyone knew bitcoin would soar to 20k, so that was not built into this model re expectation.
Ned has seen the highs of bitcoin and ridden the wave, made 500 million $ along the way, now steem is down to 33 cents and all of a sudden it is no longer worth it? when it was only 7 cents before? smell a rat yet?

For steem to be taken serious it needs to be decoupled from bitcoin, so any movement in btc does not affect it. The only way to do this is get it on exchanges where it can be bought for fiat, not for btc.

It already is on exchanges like bittrex, though you still have to pay with BTC, more of the same in no way will help.

Until there is enough of us earning enough to sell it localbtc style, this is what we get.
