Great Steemians, greetings to you all from the capital city of Akwa Ibom State – Uyo. How is your area? May God bless your daily hustling in Jesus Christ's name. Amen. 21X.

It was a day I thought I would have some rest, but unplanned activities, especially meeting the needs of the family at some points, arose, and I was left with no option but to live up to the responsibility and expectation. Like one of my colleagues will tell you, “Family first before anything else.” I always believe that if the home is peaceful, happiness and joy will run through the house.

Before we have the full details of how my day went, let's see the highlights below:

HIGHLIGHTS OF MY DAY

  1. I observed morning devotion.Fetching water.
  2. Looking for where to fill cooking gas (LPG).
  3. Visiting my keke driver's house and others.

Fetching Water

MORNING

What we can't compromise is the morning prayers. We must begin the day with God, whose grace helps us day by day. By 5:30am we woke up, and my wife opened the devotion with choruses, which I personally struggled with sleep through, but I had no choice but to scrub my eyes, resisting the heaviness of sleep to stay awake and pray with the family. The topic cast your cares to God was a source of strength to us in an economy that is difficult for a common man to survive but God is taking care of us.c

After the prayers, committing the day into the hand of the Almighty God, we then engaged in the domestic chores. At about 10:11am the water board company distributed water in our area. Since Christmas till now, we have been enjoying the free gift of water from the agency. After I finished watching the water into the house and had some rest, I focused on other things in the house.

About 11:45am my wife went to boil water for food, but unfortunately the cooking gas had finished. I made a call to a nearby marketer who told me that he travelled for the new year and is yet to be back. I tried other places;

Going to Fill cooking gas
none was doing business, leaving me with no option but to call a keke on charter to go to the popular
Inside Keke (Tricycle) with gas cylinder
One Gas Station located at Nwaniba Road, Uyo, near Uruan Local Government Area.

AFTERNOON

We got to this busy one gas station about 12:37pm. First I queued to make payment through the cashier, but those who fill will take your printout receipt and fill based on the kg you paid for. The place is convenient for the business, as safety measures are put in place, apart from giving a reasonable perimeter between where the gas is filled and the customers' waiting point. What stood out for me in “One Gas” is their treatment, collecting your cylinder from the gate and returning it as you are going. There was a little delay as others who came before were being attended to. I sat with the keke driver until it was my turn, and we left about 1:18pm.

On getting home, I dropped the cylinder. I went with the keke man, who is my friend, to his house, and he spent about 20 mins driving me back while setting out for the hustling of the day on the road. While going home I bought my son a chair that he will sit and eat in; in fact, the boy of the house needs a special seat. As I got home, he was happy and needed to sit down immediately. I told him he had to wash the chair before he could use it. This is where my son started crying as if he had asked me to buy the chair for him 😃 😀. I had to give him a biscuit to bribe him so that I could wash the chair while he was eating it. After washing the chair, I also gave him an afternoon bath. He slept until evening when he woke up to start pushing the chair to every corner of the house.

EVENING

In the evening my wife was craving fried yam.

I went out to buy Fried Yam
She sounded it to my ears, but I pretended not to hear her. When I saw that she was serious, I got and wore my clothes and stepped out.
Along Udoinwang Street off Nwaniba Road, I found the seller who, luckily for me, resumed business that same evening. I bought the yam for my wife to avoid her disturbances – joking with her.

I went to dump refuse

Later that evening, around 7pm, we went to dump refuse. As we got back home, dinner was served, and we had our bath for the evening and went to bed after listening to news on how Rivers State House of Assembly started the impeachment proceedings of their governor for spending the state's funds without accountability. The next headline focused on Malami who embezzled and owns properties worth N213.2 Billion. EFCC is on the case.

I thank God for the strength to run the engaging day and still enjoy it.

STILL HAPPY NEW YEAR

Greetings from my end as well. Your post truly reflects the reality of many homes—unplanned responsibilities, family needs, and still choosing gratitude. I especially appreciate the emphasis on morning devotion and putting family first; it sets the tone for everything else.
The little moments with your son and your wife’s fried-yam craving made the story very real and relatable.
How do you personally stay motivated on days when responsibilities pile up unexpectedly?
