Poloniex is suspending all New Hampshire accounts. Where else can I trade Steem Dollars?

in #steemit8 years ago

Just got a really crappy email from Poloniex. Obviously, there are ways around this, but are there other exchanges who handle SBD aka Steem Dollars? Here's the text of the email:

Hello,

Due to changes in the New Hampshire regulatory laws as they apply to cryptocurrency, we regret to inform you that Poloniex will be temporarily suspending services to New Hampshire residents until further notice. As a verified New Hampshire resident, you have two weeks to close any open orders and withdraw your funds from Poloniex.

During this time, your account will function normally, but you will be prohibited from opening new margin positions and lending funds.

On October 6, 2016, your account will be placed in a suspended state and access will be restricted. If you still have funds on balance at this time, you will need to file a support ticket in order to withdraw your funds. There is no deadline on this, but we request you withdraw as soon as possible.

When your account is placed in a suspended state, your data will remain on file and accessible. When we resume operations in New Hampshire, you will be able to resume trading with the same account, with all of your historical data intact. If you happen to move out of New Hampshire before we resume our services there, please contact support. You will be given instructions on how to verify your new state of residence.

We look forward to welcoming back New Hampshire residents at a future date. Until then, we will do everything we can to help you wind down your account.

You can trade both steem and steemdollars on Bittrex.com

Are there other exchanges where you can trade crypto or will people adopt other methods of trading? What happens if other US States adopt similar crypto legislation?

Kind of amusing when you consider New Hampshire's state motto.

There already are other states. NYC is already blocked by a lot of sites (including Shapeshift) because of BitLicense. California ALMOST passed a bill that would've made it a terrible place for crypto, but luckily it didn't pass.

I'm a fellow New Hampshire resident effected by this oppression.

If you are looking to sell steem dollars, I would be willing to pay you the poloniex price in BTC. I buy a small volume every week.

Please feel free to reach out to me for contact information and we can make an arrangement.

In interim, I'll be moving to Bittrex for my trading.

I think distributed exchanges are the key and they will survive.

would it help to have an account set up in another country?

you can trade into physical allocated gold on https://vaultoro.com no need to go back to fiat

Darn, sorry to read this, this sucks.

It looks like they're nice enough to give you a weeks notice. At least you're actually allowed to withdraw your money, rather than them freezing your funds forever.

It's quite sad to see this, New Hampshire is the place that advertises libertarian culture, and many bitcoin communities are based there because of how "free" the state is/was.
