Bean Plant Sprout
Greetings Steemians,
This is the sprout of a bean plant which I will attempt to grow completely in an artificial environment.
There is a second plant beside it beginning to sprout. There will be two plants in a 1 gallon container. I am not sure if this is adequate space for the roots, but I will re-pot later on if necessary.
The planting medium is made by Pro-Mix. Here are the ingredients:
Here is a photo of the grow lights. These are extremely energy efficient. What you are looking at is primarily red and blue light spectrum LED's, (LIGHT EMITTING DIODE) with a total of 10 green light spectrum LED's (4 on the strip, and 2 on each round bulb) all which pull a grand total of about 50 watts.

I'm teaching my son how to garden, and I'm learning new things along the way as well.
It's a nice experience for us both.
We're also looking forward to two different breeds of pepper plants sprouting in the future.
This should be fun, thus far there are no pests infiltrating the space, and the sprouts look very healthy and happy.

They grow up so quickly at this age, don't they?!

My beans taught me a very important lesson this year: ground hogs can wipe out an entire crop in a few minutes, along with peas, cucumbers, zucchini and swiss chard. The only reason I saved the tomatoes is because they left those for last. And that is all I saved. So I wish you luck with the artificial environment.
Sorry to hear about your crop getting wiped out, that really sucks.
The ground hog population is out of control here, I'll bet there are at least 20-30 living in my back yard right now.
Indoor cultivation certainly avoids disasters like this, but it definitely comes with many challenges. There's so much to it, but I enjoy all of the variables. It keeps me learning.
Some plants are very forgiving in the artificial environment, others (such as succulents) are quite difficult to maintain like this. (At least with my knowledge base and equipment.)

Yes, this is completely indoors in a mostly controlled environment.
I hope we do not go without sunlight in the near future, my intuition tells me that the sun is not going anywhere for a very long time. I hope I am right about that!
