The great universe of Castlevania on the consoles of yesteryear

in INVEN Gaming4 years ago (edited)

Castlevania has been one of the franchises that over time has gained a very relevant community within video games. Since its first release in 1986, which premiered on the Nintendo Entertainment System, more than three decades have passed offering excellent video games, with great changes that have evolved over the years.

In the past, Castlevania games were very different from the games we know today, their main gameplay method was directional, with jumps and simple removal of monsters in our path, belonging to the platform genre, although in certain titles such as Castlevania II: Simon's Quest they would integrate RPG elements to give it a different touch.

Among the Castlevania games that were released between 1986 and 1991 there are 2 that stood out in an impressive way, these were Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse for the Nintendo NES and Super Castlevania IV for the Super Nintendo. Despite their different graphics, these two games offer the player a unique experience on each of their platforms.

Castlevania III had one of the best sounds and melodies in the entire NES saga, plus it gave you the ability to choose your route, completely changing the level design, some enemies, and more.

One of the things that makes this game interesting is the possibility to play with four different characters, among them is the main character called Trevor Belmont who carries the legendary Vampire Killer, the priestess Sypha Belnades, the pirate Grant DaNasty and finally the son of Dracula called Alucard.

This is why many fans of the saga consider Castlevania III one of the best games in the entire saga. Its story, sound quality, playability, and unique cast of characters make it a totally incredible video game, with the ability to replay it several times to get 100% of its secrets out of it.

On the other hand, we have the first Castlevania for the beast's brain called Super Castlevania IV which has a big difference to the previous one, here we won't have the possibility to play with several characters nor choose which way to go, but that doesn't make it inferior in quality, since this game offered one of the best gameplay of the past.

Unlike the previous deliveries, we can move the whip in any of the 8 directions that allows the D-pad of the Snes controller, this detail allows a series of movements, among the most remarkable we have the power to hang on a kind of rings, allowing balance and reach unreachable areas with normal jumps.

The graphical aspect is one of the things that make this Castlevania unique in its time, thanks to the 16 Bits of the Super Nintendo you could appreciate impressive graphics and effects, one of them is the 7 mode, at the time this effect impressed anyone who looked for a few seconds at any of the levels where it was present.

This Castlevania, like its prequel, is also considered one of the best in the saga, causing many discussions about which is the best of all. The answer will depend on each player's tastes, each game innovating in certain aspects which served as the basis for the creation of future sequels.

As a curious fact, in 2017 was launched an animated series on Netflix called Castlevania which is based on all the events that happen in Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, explaining in detail all the events and plot of that video game, if you have not seen it yet I recommend you see it, even if you have not played the game.

Have you ever played any of these old Castlevania? Tell me your opinion about these excellent video games in the comments section.
