Teacher Diaries: Week #1 Opening Up!

in #blog6 years ago

Hi everyone! How had you been? Welcome to another blog post of mine! I specifically chose the photo on top to show how a typical classroom looks like especially in a government-run school. Most of the students had been like that whenever the class gets boring which I really do not find unusual. Anyway, let us not linger on that. Let us get started because time waits for no one!

For today, I will be sharing with you on what are my observations during my first week as a student intern. I must say, it was freaking hot to stay inside the class given that: (1) Philippines is a tropical country; (2) there are more than 40 students in every class; (3) classrooms were not well-ventilated; (4) and the cloth of our uniform was so thick. I actually gave a design for the dressmaker and gave him a specific cloth to use but he did not follow our instructions. I was very disappointed.

My Education Philosophy

In line with my recent internship, we were asked to create our Education Philosophy. The image below is the one I made using canva which is a software online. It allows you to edit their templates with over a hundred of free images on their website. You can also customize other templates according to your own preference.

As you can see on the image beside, is my education philosophy. I really believe in holistic education that is why the moment I stepped my feet on my first class, I made it clear to the students what I have sought for them to achieve. Since teaching involves communication and the communication is a two-way process, I also allowed them to share what they were looking forward in our class.

It was satisfying to hear their thoughts. Aside from that, I knew that since the system of education in the Philippines is applying the OBE or Outcomes-Based Education, I should work as a facilitator in the class. I also put a huge emphasis of education in developing the nation. There are prevailing problems in our society that could have been solved, if not, aided by the education sector.

Although I was teaching far from my major, I really made sure that they could get the best from me as their teacher. I made sure that the moment I would step in front of the class and share my insights and knowledge, I would not be mediocre to them.
