Power or satisfaction
One of the most sought-after things humans have chased is power and there's been no shortage of examples of people chasing it over history. From the Emperors of Rome, Alexander the Great, Attila the Hun, the Kings and Queens of England, Vikings, Adolf Hitler, ISIS, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Travis Kalanick, Ray Krok and many, many more...All the way down to those history doesn't generally record or document like you and I, the small fish...Power, in some format, is something that most seek.
It may be the power to exercise freedom of speech or choice, the power over another single human being or millions, the power to enjoy safety, or regular food...It's something many, if not most, seek in some way, shape or form. Me included.
When I started on my first blogging platform I started with nothing; Well, not totally true I guess...I had my computer and the thoughts in my head gained through a life lived. I was a minuscule little organism in a vast ocean but I set out to build something bigger through my writing and engagement on that platform.
As with the world at large users were categorised based on the power they held and so, by default, seeking it was required. They had cute little names and as ones account-value raised one would attain a new label to pin to ones proud chest. So, I worked hard and consistently to build a brand as such, and work towards increasing my power level.
Back a while ago I changed my thought process, a couple years ago I guess. I shifted from post-rewards being the marker of success to the enjoyment-level, and satisfaction I gained from blogging.
Rather than watching rewards I made it more about the satisfaction I got from writing a piece and engaging with those who replied to it, and made a point of commenting on other people posts as well. It was a game changer. I got the reward as soon as I clicked the post button and sent the blog live rather than have to watch the dollar-reward after I'd sent a blog live. It was empowering.
It's pleasing to see my account grow, I'll not deny it. The growth is a good scoresheet of how I'm travelling, but I am firmly focused on the enjoyment-factor. I don't think I would be able to create blogs to my satisfaction if I didn't enjoy what I was doing. Sure, I could write a bunch of words, but would they make me happy? Probably not.
I'll never be a big player here, or in the real world either for that matter.
I'm just a regular dude with a regular life, regular intelligence, regular faults and failures and the prospect of a regular future...It's all good too...Provided I meet one my my life's goals which you can see below in my post sign-off.
In my estimation the most important thing here is to write with passion and personality, to engage a lot with validity and relevance and to be consistent. The rest, the power will take care of itself.
What are your thoughts? How do you keep score of your time here? HP or some other way; Numbers of replies received maybe? Feel free to comment.
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised.
Be well
