Documentary: Fela Kuti the Enigma
Fela Kuti is, perhaps, one of the greatest musicians to have come of out of Africa. While he may not have been popular in the Western world during his lifetime, Fela was a hero at home. Fela believed that music was a tool of social engineering, so he used his music to fight the oppressive governments at the time.
Music cannot be for enjoyment in Africa, it has to be for revolution.
- Fela Kuti
Although the Nigerian military government jailed Fela severally for daring to speak up against it, Fela remained resolute in his quest for a just society through the power of music. Fela was a fighter, a prophet, a crusader for justice; Fela was everything good. I hope you'll find the short documentary above interesting enough.
I found it very interesting. Over the years, I had heard some of Fela's music, and heard a few tidbits of info about him. But I never knew many of the details of who he was, where he was from, and what he actually did.
Great to find out thru this short vid. Thanks!
It is always my pleasure to talk and even write about African legends, people who dared to challenge repressive and retrogressive systems. Fela is one of such individuals whom I respect and revere.
I am happy you even heard about him in faraway Europe. I couldn't have imagined that.
Regards sir.
