Lockdown Bread: I took the challenge!!

in #funny5 years ago (edited)

A few days ago @meesterboom shared his lockdown triple seed and oat bread recipe. It looked so good and he looked so happy eating it! Here's his recipe:

SO, without boomie realizing he'd set up a challenge, I took it anyway.

FIrst thing was the dreaded converting grams to our clumsy Cup system! SInce I don't usually have to convert while cooking, I found out something that apparently has been staring me in the face for some time: THe list of ingredients and nutrients on packaging actually lists the cups to grams equivalent! WHo knew?!

Luckily we understood boomie's professional baker's language which included "right big squirt" and also "glug".

The switcheroos:

  1. unfortunately our wheat flour was dated 2013, so we (gardendaughter and I) decided to just use what was on hand which was just all-purpose white flour. 2) also, we had no sunflower seeds, so we doubled up on pepitos (pumpkin seeds).

Here's our attempt:

Ingredients (well, some of them)

soaking the oats

mixing the dry ingredients:

First knead:

After 1 hour of rising:

After 2nd knead and 40 min rise - fat and beautiful!

well, it was a bit under-baked, but hubby said he liked it like that - so hooray for Lockdown Bread!

And if you've made it this far, I'm sure everyone would like to see the comparison to boomie's bread:

Happy lockdown, baking, gardening, distancing to all!

Ha, this looked amazing. It looks better than mine!! I love that big cigar!!

I have to admit, any home-made bread looks enticing to me, but yours, dahling, looks professional ;0)

I must admit, I have been making it so long I am not at all bad at it :0)

Did a lovely sourdough the other night!
