How much did the military spend yesterday? $1.3 billion

Cummins Power Generation won a contract yesterday worth close to half a billion dollars for mobile power sources. US Army Contracting Command solicited only one bid for this work.

The other big winner yesterday was L3 Communications, winning a nearly half billion dollar contract for the Electro-Optic/Infrared/Laser Designator Payload. At least in this case, more than one bid was solicited; the US Army Contracting Command received two.

Just giving out a random large number when talking about defense spending seems to lack the impact that I'm hoping these daily posts will give.
