Patience Rewarded
Hello to the Feathered Friends Community. I haven't posted much here lately, but not because I have lost interest. Quite the contrary. I have actually been spending time with my bird watching and taking pictures of them but decided to wait until the photos I have are, in my humble opinion, good enough to post. So here they are. I just hope you agree with me.
In order to see birds it is necessary to become part of the silence. (Robert Lynd)
A bird is joy incarnate. (Myrtle Reed)
I went over some bird quotes and came up with these two that I think best describe the emotions that ran through me before and after I took the picture above and the others that I will show below. For those following me, I have posted before about my frustrations and exasperation in my attempts at photographing birds, especially those crows living at the property behind my house. And some members here in our community have been very kind to give their advice as to how I can improve, most notably @melinda010100, @farm-mom, @ghastlygames and of course, @barbara-orenya. And this week I finally got off some photos of the crows, which to my mind, is probably the best I have ever taken so far.
So why these particular quotes? Well, first off, one of the advice given to me was to be patient. And by patient I understood this to mean staying still for quite a good number of minutes and not making any noise lest I scare them away. And by becoming part of the silence I was indeed rewarded with their presence and their majesty. Which leads me to the second quote about the pure joy of seeing a bird, most especially when in flight.
Photo above is the closest I got but he moved too fast and got off-center. Still very happy with this one.
Another piece of advice I got was knowing what time they usually appear or fly by. I have observed in the last few days that they usually come out and play in the lot behind us at about 5 or 5:15 in the afternoon. I got some shots off but I couldn't get closer. Here's a couple.
And that's it for this update on my birdwatch. Small steps. Small steps. I always remind myself any journey begins with the first step. Hope you enjoyed this post. I did have a lot of fun making this. See you in my next update. Till then, please stay safe, stay healthy and have a great week ahead.
