Time for the Truth: What motivates You?

in GEMS3 years ago

Greetings to the community - old friends and foes. It feels a bit weird to be back writing on this blockchain after over a year of abandonment. Well, the truth remains that this blockchain gave me my first taste of crypto and getting rewarded for my honest effort. The story of my life cannot be completely told or put in a movie without steem taking an integral role. This leads me to what I will like to discuss today; what exactly motivates you in life?

I decided to ask this question not because it just occurred to me at random, but largely due to the event that led to me coming back to publish on this chain. Thanks to @seyiodus for her great convincing speech. How was she able to do it? Let's just say FINANCE. Yes, I said finance and I am not ashamed to say it because saying anything contrary would be a huge lie. Perhaps there are folks here whose primary motivating factor for publishing content on this chain is not money, I would not know.

I was born and bred in a third-world country where basic human needs such as food, shelter, and clothing could be extremely difficult to come by for a large portion of the population. I managed to maneuver my way (with the help of no one but God), to adulthood with two degrees - a Bachelor's and a Master's degree. Many would consider me to be among the lucky ones but I did not have those on a platter of gold. The story would best be told in a separate post.

I managed to scale through amidst the pangs of hunger and hard work. Getting a job was even harder. Yes, with two degrees, getting a job was a Formula one race, maybe more. To cut the long story short, discovering steem was self-emancipatory for me. Hence, in all my life, not at a particular point have I been able to say that my basic needs have been met, let alone graduate my desires to secondary needs.

According to Abraham Maslow's theory of hierarchy of needs, of course, we all know that man's needs are limitless. However, basic needs form the foundation upon which other needs are built. By the way, people are already getting tourist tickets to visit the space - think I should just let you know. Hence, when someone comes at me with the argument that we are not here for the money, deep in my mind, I know I am not among the 'we'. Yes, there might be secondary reasons but that would be after the primary reason has been met.

I initially bought into trying to pretend as if money comes second to decentralization and free speech. But the truth remains many are motivated by money, they just try to coat it with something that is not money. Do not get me wrong, I am not a slave to my desires and I have got self-dignity. However, I will never pretend like money does not matter as long as it is morally upright and legitimate.

So, I am back to this place primarily for the money - as a content creator and investor (I will be buying steem, of course). However, I try as much as possible to give value to the platform, and of course, the token. I have got no history of abuse or plagiarism if anyone cares enough to look through my blog and I sincerely hope supports will come, just like the old days.

Before dropping my pen, I put it to you:

What motivates you?
