World hunger

According to the oxford English dictionary, defines hunger in three meaning,

  1. Known as the uneasy or Painful sensation caused by want of food, craving appetite. Its also the exhausted condition caused by want of food.

  2. You can say, the want or scarcity of food in a country

  3. Or the strong desire or craving
Let talk about world hunger ,which we are refering to in the second definition, in this case its operationalized in medicine either as malnutrition or undernutrition and overnutrition.

This malnutrition is refer to the effect on people not having enough food.

Imagine the world produce enough to feed the entire global population of about 7billion people yet one person or individual in eight on the planet goes to bed hungry each night

The question is why does hunger exist ?!
1.poverty trap
2.lack of investment in agriculture
3.climate and weather changes
4.unstable markets
5.war and displacement

Poverty trap

Individual living in poverty can not afford nutritious meal /food for themselves and their families as a result of that it makes them weaker physically and mentally so they are less able to earn money which would help them escape poverty and hunger.

In some countries (developing ones )farmers dont have money to by tools and fertilizer they need, no land or water or even education that why the poor are hungry and their hunger traps them in poverty .

Lack of investment in agric

many developing countries lack the roads, warehouses and irrigation systems that would help them overcome hunger.

Without this key infrastructure, communities are left facing high transport costs, a lack of storage facilities and unreliable water supplies all of which will contributes to limit farmers yields and families access to food.

Investments in improving land management, using water more efficiently and making resistant seed types available can bring big improvements.

research by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization shows that investment in agriculture is five times more effective in reducing poverty and hunger than investment in any other sector.

Climate and weather

Natural disasters such as floods, tropical storms and long periods of drought are on the increase with calamitous consequences for the hungry poor in developing countries.

Drought is one of the most common causes of food shortages in the world.

In 2011,
Peristent lack of rain caused crop failures and heavy livestock losses in parts of Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya.
In 2012 , similar situation in the Sahel region of West Africa.

In many countries, climate change is exacerbating already tough conditions.

The world's fertile farmland is under threat from erosion, salination and desertification.

Meanwhile we human are fond of deforestation which accelerates the erosion of land which could be used for growing.

Unstable market

Some developing countries don't have markets that are stable , recent years, the price of food products has been very unstable.

The up and down movement of food prices make it difficult for the poorest people to get food that are nutritious consistently ,which is exactly what they need to do.

Families need access to adequate food through out the year .

Price spikes, on the other hand, may temporarily put food out of reach, which can have lasting consequences for small children.

When or if prices rise, consumers often shift to cheaper, less-nutritious foods, heightening or increase the risks of micronutrient deficiencies and other forms of malnutritional

Solution

We must stop land grabbing which is a process whereby a wealthy company or government or group of people with money buys land to produce food ,

biofuel or to use as a profitable investment for other people ,it happens in most countries like in Africa ,Asia Latin America

Also supporting of small farmers ,in African if farmers were to be trained in the method such as better rice planting and irrigation and they begin to start using fertilizer with better seed things will begin to revitalize African farming system

Feeding of infants ,to delete or removing of malnutrition is a achievable goal,

parents need to be educated on good. eating manner or techniques and how to get the right food with nutrients from the start of pregnancy,

this malnutrition is responsible for an about 11% decline in GDP in countries affected<.

Great entry. Definitely an important issue. One of the most important! And we should be able to feed everyone, but certain people in power are too greedy. There's enough to go around for everyone, but not if a small percent horde much more than they would even need and the majority of it for themselves. It's kinda hard to say we're very evolved on this planet if we can't even feed all our people but there's more than enough food to go around.. Really unfortunate, that that is the case.. Thanks for the important entry gerrardihno!

Agreed no one should be strip of their right to eat its one of the basic needs of human life
