The ads will still be served, but Google will not scan consumer content to choose ads. I think this is a good news for privacy.

I dissociated myself from gmail three years ago. I built my own private email server and invited a few friends to use it. I'm considering making it public for the crypto-users :)
There was a time where gmail accounts were free to register, now, they force you to give them your cell phone number to do that. Screw google.
Atlast Google decided to give users some privacy.. I don't trust then though
