The house at the end of street - Chapter 13 - Original fiction (Previous chapters at the end of post)
Sarah immediately picked up the book. She was totally ecstatic. She couldn't believe that she had found the exact same picture in the book that she had found in her closet.
Amelia Dubois 1902 - 1946. Married to François-Marie, marquis de Barthélemy. Cause of death: Childbirth.
Sarah read further but that was no more information available. Amelia was not mentioned anywhere else. The only thing mentioned further was a chateau in Paris. Chateau de Berne. This whole story was very intriguing and Sarah were totally lost in her own thoughts. She snapped back into reality when she heard a buzzing sound. It was her phone...
She completely forgot about Matt. He must be waiting for her at the restaurant. She answered her phone, quickly apologized and made her way to the door. She checked out the two books she needed for her research and left the library.
Matt already found them a table in the corner at the Purple pig restaurant and she quickly gave him a peck on his cheek. After apologizing again she sat down opposite him.
"I found her Matt. I found Amelia."
She told him what she had found and then handed him the book. They ordered drinks and their food and then Matt opened the book where she told him to. He read the same information, and then sat back smiling.
"Do you have any idea who this Francois Dubois was Sarah? "
Sarah looked at him funny and shook her head. She had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.
"Francois Dubois was one of the most world famous architects in the 1930's. I can't believe you didn't know this."
"I'm a lawyer Matt... I have no clue about houses...I told you that... do you think he designed my house?
"Oh definitely... there is no doubt about it! This is an amazing discovery. I can't wait for us to find out more."
They had the most amazing lunch and Sarah listened attentively while Matt told her about the marquis de Barthélemy. It all sounded so amazing and wonderful, and it was like a whole story unfolding and she was part of it.
The rest of the week flew by and by Friday afternoon Sarah had seen the architect, plumber and electrician that Matt suggested. They were starting work the next week. The plumber suggested that she move out of the house while they work as she will be left without water and electricity for most of the time they'll be working.
She still had a few days left on her lease at the apartment and most of her personal stuff were still there, so she decided to move back in there for a few days.
She invited Matt to dinner and he said that he would bring some wine and help her pack. He would bring boxes and they could spend the evening sorting out the stuff she wanted to take with her to her new house.
When she arrived at her apartment it felt as if she stepped back into a different life. The two dead plants were still there but everything else seemed different. It was such a small apartment and she couldn't believe that she had lived there for nearly seventeen years. Nothing excited her when she stayed here and it was like this place pushed her straight into a depression.
She stood next to the the couch and looked at everything around her. What the hell was she going to do for the next week in this little apartment? She still had two more months of leave and now she had all this free time. What was she going to do with herself?
She decided to switch on the music and looked for the remote to switch it on. The cleaning lady had obviously been there as everything was neat and tidy. She found the remote next to the couch and when she picked it up she saw something on the table that she had forgotten about. The brochures. She was about to go on a trip just before Rich died. She smiled at herself and picked up the phone.
"Matt could you take a few days of work? I know it's short notice but it is very important"
"I could probably put in leave for a week or two"... Matt said, and wondered what it was all about....
An hour later the doorbell rang and there was Matt standing with his arms full of boxes. She had completely forgotten about the packing.
"Oh Matt, I'm so sorry for all this trouble! Put down those silly boxes we don't need those anymore.
Matt seemed surprised. "So are you going to tell me what was so important?"
Sarah grinned at him and said...I have the biggest surprise ever. WE are going to Paris. We're going to see the Chateau de Berne!
